Ate here 7/14/2012, a Saturday Night. We got there late but they didn't seem to mind.

For an Appetizer we had the Asian Duck Egg rolls. They were...ok. Not bad. I didn't taste much duck but there was plenty of shrimp. The Bing cherry sauce was nice, but nothing extraordinary.

I had a cup of French Onion soup, and was disappointed. The soup itself was thin and not very flavorful...it was like they diluted it with water. It wasn't bad so I didn't send it back, just kind of weak. The crust and cheese were small and disappointing. I like it when the cheese overlaps the rim of the vessel and gets a little crusty.

As for the Entrees, my date had the Redfish with a caper lemon butter sauce and I had the Duck Mansur, both of which came with a risotto (prosciutto and vegetables as I recall). The Redfish was fine, well-cooked but overall a bit lackluster. My duck was nice, boneless and flavorful. The Risotto was...not so good. Risotto should be creamy and flavorful, whereas this seemed like maybe it sat on the stove for too long and dried out. It wasn't bad, but was thick and dense. We also had Green Beans Almondine as a side. The brown butter was well done but the green beans themselves were curiously tough, though still crunchy.

For dessert we had the butterfinger creme brulee. The texture was spot-on and the butterfinger crumble went surprisingly well with the creme.

Overall it wasn't bad by any stretch, and the piano player was really very good, as was our waiter. However for the price I just don't see myself...

I've read rave reviews of the food, but I have to say our food was only slightly better than mediocre. The service was far, far worse. This was our first visit, and everyone in our party agreed this would be our last.

My chargrilled oysters were tiny; so tiny I'm convinced at least a couple of them weren't whole oysters. (NOTE: Check attached photo & tell me if that looks like a whole oyster, or even an oyster at all!) The flavor was okay, but I've had better at numerous local restaurants that charge a LOT less than $2 per oyster.

My cedar plank broiled redfish, a dish they claim made them famous, was a bit dry and very over-salted. The couple of tablespoons of "risotto" they served with it tasted like plain, mushy rice with nothing but parsley in it. I couldn't taste a hint of the supposed parmesan cheese that was claimed to be in it.

The bread pudding, unlike everything else, was fantastic. Sadly, that was the only highlight of the evening for us.

Our waiter seemed like he would rather be anywhere else and neglected to check on us at every opportunity. My water was empty for 10 minutes before I could get his attention to get a refill.

I honestly don't know how or why Mansur's is rated as highly as they are. I've eaten at countless places that far surpass this dining experience in every regard, yet this remains one of the highest rated restaurants in Baton Rouge. It makes no sense, but I suppose I'm glad someone likes it, but we vehemently disagree.

Will...

Mansurs was alright!

Many people in town recommending this as a high end Louisiana food spot. It’s not necessarily a steak house, but they do have that as an option. It is more so a seafood spot.

I tried a lot of food - but overall, the food was very greasy. The whole point of the place is to saturate things in butter and oil. Almost makes your stomach hurt while you’re eating it.

The grilled oysters are tasty but each oyster is sitting in a pool of butter - tasty but briefly before your body shuts down.

I chose to do the soup flight - this was the best part of the meal! I got the gumbo, collard greens gumbo (daily soup), and the creamy seafood. These were all delicious, the flavor was great. I really liked the collard green gumbo, light and flavorful - yet loaded with protein!

I had the fish special for dinner and in full honesty, I could not eat this. It was so insanely greasy that it was hard to stomach. The risotto was also sitting in a pool of grease and butter. Not good.

I know some people enjoy very sweet drinks or a buttery and flavorful meal - but this was 5x in the wrong direction. Never had food this greasy except at a bbq spot.

I hope that the team takes the feedback and possibly has more dishes that aren’t as greasy.

Over all - fine food, but know what you’re getting into. Staff is very kind. The atmosphere was weird cause it was a high end spot but there were TV’s to watch places all over the restaurant. It’s not that...

Mansurs is an excellent place in Baton Rouge to get unique and delicious fish dishes. When I go to this restaurant, I typically get the Cedar Plank Redfish. The fish is grilled and is always at the perfect temp. There are many toppings that can added to the fish for an additional cost. Most toppings feature shrimp and/or crab. The fish is usually served with risotto or linguini. While both are good, I usually request veggies or something else. There is an ample selection of wines by the glass or bottle. The service at Mansurs is always great. The waitstaff are knowledgeable of the specials and menu as well as the wines. There are also other folks walking around to attend to dishes, empty glasses, etc. I’ve been told that reservations are recommended, but I’ve never had to wait to get a table. The weeknights that I’ve eaten at here have featured a piano player in the main dining area, which I enjoy.

For starts we started off with the soup of cup of Brie & crab meat. It was recommended by the server, I recommended this soup. We also started off with the 1 Half Dozen Premium Oysters 1 Half Dozen Chargrilled Oysters 🦪. The premium oysters were raw. They are suppose to be super clean because the water constantly rolls off of them keeping them free of anything growing or sitting. Our server Charles was super knowledgeable, always on it! Good service for sure. For the main course we had the Pasta Alfredeaux - Ultimate with the crab meat, shrimp & crawfish. We ordered a side of red peppers & our server brought both red pepper & cayenne to put on top. (Recommend putting both on the pasta). The Gouda Mac and cheese was different for sure. It wasn’t bad, you just have to have a like for Gouda cheese. I do like how different things were.
