This was the WORST Marriott stay that I've ever had. The customer service was totally lacking. I stayed here because I thought that this hotel would be better than one of the downtown hotels, where my meeting was occurring for these 2 days. However, this was not the case. On my last day, I needed a taxi to take me from the hotel to my downtown meeting. However, it seemed as if the lady who was working the front desk (at around 8AM on Saturday, April 2nd) hadn't called the taxi because Yellow Cab never arrived. After waiting for 15 minutes, I returned to the front desk and asked her to call again. This resulted in me having to wait another 10 minutes for another cab driver (Brad Cab?). Moreover, it's a shame that there was only 1 lady working the front desk when I departed the hotel at 8AM on Saturday, April 2nd. I can tell that she was overworked. At least 2 people should have been working the checkout-out desk because there was a long line of individuals waiting to check out. Moreover, the lady at the desk at this time was flustered when I asked her about getting a tax exemption for my stay (I'm a federal employee who was travelling on government business). She told me that "you should have completed this when you checked in," and I was taken aback by this.
The windows in the hotel apparently weren't insulated well because I could hear the Interstate very clearly in my room, and this, along with all of the noise from the construction was disturbing when I was trying to work during the day in my room. When I departed the hotel at about 8AM on Saturday, April 2nd, beer bottles were strewn all around the bar area as if a party had taken place there the night before without cleaning up. This was disgusting! I also saw no bellmen working the front door on either day. Moreover, smoking routinely occurred near the revolving door of the hotel. I found this to be very off putting, especially because Marriott has a no-smoking policy.
There were scratches and water marks all over the drawer that the television sat on. And debris under the beds suggested that the floor had not been thoroughly vacuumed.
Overall, this stay was not what I would have expected from a Marriott. I will never stay at this hotel again if I visit Baton Rouge, and I will not recommend it to my colleagues who routinely travel for the...
Read moreWhen I booked the reservation I soley booked it because they had an outside pool and they were close to LSU. When I booked it I didn't notice that they said that some things may effect this stay due to renovations, until I got my ready to check in email. I was thinking who would renovate their pool during the hottest month. I was HIGHLY disappointed they weren't slightly renovating they were in full blown construction! We got in late so we decided to eat there. We only had access to a small fraction of the hotel and the "amenities" that was open was a joke. The pictures that I saw online showed what the hotel is going to look like when it is all done!! Not how it currently looks. The guest rooms were complete and they were beautiful, however that was the only thing done. They used an old meeting room as the bar and restaurant. The kitchen was a trailer outside in the parking lot so the servers had to walk outside with our food, in a trailer with the door going outside continuously opened and let bugs in and out. One server didn't even cover the food. The gumbo and alligator bits were good, everything else was over priced bland and dry food. The bar was just on quick make shift counter like at a frat party would use nothing you would actually would want to sit at and relax. That was and your amenities, you only had access to a small fraction of the hotel. They were saying that Marriott purchased this for $34mil it was all supposed to be done over a year ago, but kept running into problems. In my opinion and what I saw it doesn't even look close to being finished even in this year. Marriott got desperate and had to start making money so they rented out the rooms for their benefit not caring about our complete stay.
The staff was friendly and even with everything going on they tried to make the best out of the worst. I know its not their fault and they tried to do their job with what they had. The hotel shouldn't be opened yet or strictly state rooms are only available and have the price a lot lower.
The room was beautiful, you can tell the work was rushed. My 12 year old Daughter noticed that the shower door didn't close all the way and we can tell that over a couple years its going to start looking worn out and have problems. I am not a contractor but it...
Read moreFront desk gave a man a key to my room and he was able to unlock and open my door at 9pm while I was working. Thank goodness he was just another traveler put into an uncomfortable situation, being given the key and room number of a room already occupied. I am a woman traveling alone. I have never felt more unsafe. When I notified the front desk they didn't apologize or make any attempt to make it right, just said that someone must have made a mistake and said they'd send up someone with new keys. No attempt to make it right or reassure me that something like that wouldn't happen again. I would leave 0 stars if I could, if you are a woman traveling alone, I would NOT stay here!!
Edited to add: a gentleman from the front desk came to my room and apologized multiple times, stated it was a mistake but that he had made extra keys for me and that would prevent another key from being issued for my room. He let me know that he had informed the manager of the mistake and I let him know that I would like to speak to management. I will update again after I have spoken with management.
Edited to add 2: Was there Subday through Friday morning. Not once did management reach out. I asked the gentleman the first night to have the GM contact me, nothing. I asked Derrick, shift manager on Tuesday evening to have the GM call me after I recounted what happened to him - nothing. When I checked out Friday morning, I told the gentleman working the front desk what happened, wrote down my info and asked him to have the GM reach out. Crickets. This is absolutely ridiculous. First you give a man access to my room at 9 o'clock at night, then someone even responds to my review asking me to reach out to management assuring me that they will make it right .... absolutely nothing. Disgusting behavior, congrats to Hilton I guess, they get a...
