šŸ“ Black Bear Lodge in Baxter, MN. This place has the BEST primerib in the Brainerd Lakes Area hands down. Until I’m proven otherwise this is my stance! Valentines was perfect. My husband and I had lunch here with my parents and the food and service were wonderful. We all had walleye in some form so the food portion of this review is sort of limited. My dad had the walleye sandwich with waffle fries with the rest of ordering the pan fried walleye. The walleye was cooked perfectly for everyone and tasted absolutely delicious. The vegetables were fresh- hot, not mushy, full flavor, not oversalted. The mashed potatoes and waffle fries were both good. I can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu. Service was fast and friendly. My dad has milk at lunch every day without fail and for some reason about 95% of servers forget to bring him his milk. The milk showed up here. Maybe it's because we all ordered walleye but I'll put it in the good service pocket so kudos! Our server was awesome. Accessibility: there's disability parking though it's somewhat far from the entrance. You may need to be dropped at the door. I took photos so refer to those. Wheelchairs will need to roll up a slight incline to the door from the parking access. We sat at a booth and I was able to easily transfer out of my chair onto the cushioned booth with my chair sitting right next to me. It didn't block the aisle (manual rigid chair). The tables in the area we sat in were wheelchair accessible. Aisles were plenty wide.

Really enjoyed the log cabin vibe and decor of the place. Food was okay but for the price could've been better. Service seemed rushed and while they seemed busy was not what I would've hoped for. For appetizers two people had salad, one had a chicken wild rice soup, and one lobster bisque. Salads were fine. The rice soup was a thick stew with consistency of chili and not very pleasant. The lobster bisque was the star of the whole meal. Wine was ordered initially but didn't come out until a few asks on status. For entrees we ordered steaks and someone had walleye. The food came in decent time but wait staff failed to clear off first course and I nearly ended up with my steak knife in my lap. I appreciate staff are rushed & maybe understaffed these days but would prefer they take their time to bus tables between courses. Steaks were ok, for prime rib being a Friday special, it was done pretty well. Didn't offer horseradish. The filet mignon was pretty good, seemed that it was done before the fish and waited under a lamp for 10 minutes before delivery. Again was good but for the price you're paying I was a little disappointed. Walleye seemed like a fish & chip. Okay but not thrilling.

Came in for dinner with my family on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. We were seated right away we all ordered steaks. One of our steaks there was so much fat on it. It was not trimmed. 1/3 of the steak was all fat and gristle that is normally not how ribeye is supposed to be properly trimmed. It appeared to be a very poor cut of meat and lacked in flavor. The other two steaks came out almost blue and they were both filet mignonā€˜s well one of us was eating. The other two waited for the steaks to be returned only to find out they put our existing steaks back on the grill. One of them came out completely overcooked when asked and brought to our servers attention, she went back and spoke to the manager on duty and they took $40 off of our tab. my daughter didn’t even eat any of her food except the baked potato that $40 did not even cover her meal. It was one of the worst experiences we’ve had as far as steaks for quite some time, and this place came highly recommended. We felt the way this was handled was poorly, as well as the compensation to try to remedy the issue. The server seemed irritated as it was almost the end of her shift so we paid our tab and left. Our bill still came to $177 with tip for an entrĆ©e that tasted like it was microwaved. Our salads had brown lettuce in them and lack in flavor. The entire experience at your restaurant was poor at best. I feel like our time was wasted, and our special occasion to dime together over a birthday was ruined by poor service and poor...
