Based on reviews and recommendations we were really looking forward to our night at Field’s. Unfortunately it was a real disappointment. Our mixed drinks were small with hardly any liquor. My Old fashioned looked like kool-aid and when I asked if they used a mix for the drink the waitress quickly & curtly responded No! Very overpriced mixed drinks. We gave the waitress feedback on the drinks for future customers and she said if we ordered another they would put more alcohol in it!!! What???? Decided to try wine and was told my selection was not available but the wine that was $5 more per glass was available. I reluctantly said ok and the wine glass came back with unusually small amount of wine. Very odd. The 2 appetizers were disappointing as well. Blue crab Augratin appetizer ($23) was extremely cheesy and hardly any crab and served with bread that ranged from rubbery to extremely hard. The lobster bisque was tasty but for $15 served in very small bowl.
We decided to end the meal there and not order any entree based on what we had already experienced.
There was a manager on site but never made himself available to check on any of the customers. Our waitress was mediocre at best.
I never leave bad reviews but this experience was probably the worst ever in our 50+ years of eating out!! I hope it spares someone else having a bad restaurant...
Read moreWhat a great start to finish experience. Restaurant has a friendly, classy vibe, and we were seated right away (reservations recommended). At that point, our server, Nastassia, took over. From fixing a wobbly table leg, to recommendations on cocktails (great smoked Old Fashioned), to appetizer, to getting our split order exactly right, she did not miss. Attentive, without hovering, friendly and patient, she was the server you always hope for. Beyond her service, the staff are a well oiled machine, as others helped bring out our plates and made sure our water glasses stayed full.
On her advice, we got the crabcake as an appetizer, and it was HUGE, she said it was 8 oz, and almost all crabmeat. A meal in itself, do not pass this up. We split a grilled Caesar salad (with MORE crabmeat) and split a large filet, with the creamed spinach and bacon macaroni and cheese as sides. Large portions of all, and the dry aged steak was cooked to perfection, with a great crust and topped with a creamy rosemary butter sauce. Can’t report on dessert since we were stuffed, but watching the table next to ours have theirs come out (and set on fire) made us wish we’d saved some room. Field’s could hold their own with any restaurant in...
Read moreMade reservations two weeks in advance for 7:30 for party of four to try Fields for the first time. Arrived and was seated at a small table in a very cramped corner. Table rocked back and forth and a party of eight were nearby loudly celebrating a birthday (complete with a flaming birthday cake served by Fields that made the place smell like gunpowder). Terrible atmosphere downstairs. Loud and cramped with 70's vintage furniture. Nothing like a restored historic home. Went on order our food and found out the "Gulf Seafood Special" was Salmon. REALLY? The GULF does not have Salmon. Ordered our food which took over an hour to receive. Two dishes were good (the Salmon and a Steak) and two were very AVERAGE at best (chargrilled oysters and a pasta dish). Not nearly the quality you would expect for the prices. We won't go back. I understand the upstairs bar area is a better atmosphere. So if you're looking for a good bar in a great location with very expensive food, give the upstairs at Fields a try. If you're looking for an exquisite atmosphere with much better food at better prices, head to Mary Mahoney's next door. It's always excellent. Friendly staff is reason for two stars...
