Thai O'Brien's Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Bayonne

I came here on good recommendation from a frequent customer and we decided to celebrate my partners birthday here and WOW 🤩 ! This place is great ! We were greeted and sat by the owner who was super nice and a great Maitré De. We started with a pot of warm saké which was excellent, both in presentation and quality (of taste) and ordered our appetizers. We got a spread of items to try and everything was delicious! Knock out flavors that were pronounced, there, and without over powering. It was really refreshing since it’s been awhile since any of us had Thai food. So you know when a chef gets it right; it really takes it home! The soup is to die for! It’s absolutely stellar! I can see why our recommender has it at least once a week. Our entrees came and we were yet again impressed. The presentation, portions, and taste of everything was divine 🤩 🍽 it’s a surprise of a location with street parking ; surrounded by residential. And you may not expect such tasty food to come out of such a place… but it is and it’s there! You should treat yourself here time and time again! It’s clean from the dining room, the bathrooms to the bar, it was emasculate! I’m really impressed.

After dinner we went into the bar area which was also stunning! The lighting, the color lit cloud in the ceiling, the spaciousness of the room! Everything is great! They have a dart machine and Karaoke too! It’s nice to see a karaoke bar outside of NYC 🎤 ! Our bartender was super cool and friendly as well! Made our drinks perfectly, and had some good suggestions for us to try. They had an organic gin I’ve never seen and tasted which was so smooth with a light eruption of botanicals as you swallowed that was so pleasant ; like experiencing botanicals bloom internally , in yet again, a profound notable way without being too much. It was fantastic. As well as the hard seltzer on tap and most importantly, The Service! Truly wonderful people that are masters of food & beverage service. They went out of their way to bring a candle so we could sing happy birthday that was a firecracker and super cool 💥 😎 that was such a pleasant surprise for us and really made our night special (thank you again). This Thai Restaurant & Bar is amazing and you should definitely visit. I can’t wait to go back! Very small restaurant, yet very cozy and great food for a reasonable price. The chicken with chili sauce and pork chops were absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend 9/10⭐️

Update: Went back yesterday as a return customer for the fourth time. The food was very good, as usual. The service this time, however, left much to be desired. This surprised and dismayed my boyfriend and me, as we had become loyal customers and we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Off the bat, the waiter took our orders without bothering to ask us whether we wanted anything to drink. I had to call out to the server to get us two sprites. When my order came out I had large pieces of chicken yet no knife. Previously, knives had been automatically placed on the table. Once again, I had to call out to the server & request it. Why were we the only two people in the restaurant and yet the wait staff is about as attentive as a babysitter on pot? Only because most of the time, when not in the kitchen, he just stood around by the bar with his boss, who should have been telling him to take care of his only two customers. Then, when my boyfriend paid the bill & gave a tip, which was under 18% due to the shoddy service & also due to gross inflation & the fact that the tab seemed overpriced, the server complained (to disclaim, we always tip fairly and generously, and appropriately equal to the quality of service). However, he failed to tell us that the reason the bill seemed overpriced was because they had already included the 18% tip in the bill without bothering to inform us! And the server had the nerve to complain when my boyfriend gave him an extra amount of cash on top of that?? Adding the tip automatically to the check is customary in Europe—not America. Patrons be warned: Thai O’Brien’s will charge your tip automatically, without telling you. That is the definition of extortion. This spot; please beware. If you’re in the Bayonne area and are feeling for Thai food, you may want to consider other options. I ordered the red curry tofu meal. When it arrived, it was in a nicely sized container: probably around 12 ounces or more and enough to feed 3 people. After portioning the plates for myself and family, we discovered only 5 small cubes of tofu for the entire portion and if you’ve ever purchased tofu, you’d know that this is not even half of a tofu square sold at the supermarket. So I called and inquired. They apololied and said to accept a credit for another meal. So I called a few days later to place an order “hello” “Hello, may I place an order for pickup” “NO” and hung up. I noticed they were screening the call when I called the evening before and they didn’t answer the phone. I suppose everyone has the right to refuse but a business place operating like it’s being ran by children is certainly their lot and I can imagine if their mentality is that poor, I wouldn’t want to see the condition of the kitchen and the manner in which the foods are created in these times of germs and diseases....
