Since moving here about a year and half ago, I have made it a point to try different foods and different stores. Today I went into Kretchmar's Bakery just before 10am. My primary reason was to pick up some mini loaves of sour dough beard for my kid. I had heard from my neighbor that they have the best in the area. Needless to say, it was not a good experience. The woman (the reciept said her name was "Dee") that waited on me was rather arrogant and very rude. Now, I admit that I am not everyone's cup of tea with all my tattoo work and various piercings, but I dont not need to be treated as if I was the dog doo on the bottom of someone's shoe. I had to ask if they had the sour dough bread, she said that was not her area of knowledge, then she looked over and said "no, that they didn't have any". One of the other counter ladies let her know that there were several sour dough loaves. I had wanted to get more of them, but this woman's attitude was enough to make me want to leave the store and not come back. Then in attempting to pay for the item, this woman wanted all sort of information. Due to the nature of various data violations, I do not give out information to anyone. This woman claimed that since I was not paying by cash, she was required by store policy and by the computer to collect various bits and pieces of information. If this collection of data is store policy, then there is something serious wrong with the policies of the store. That information is already in the magnetic strip on the card. If this is a requirement of the computer program used in the collection of sales, then the manager or owner is at fault for failing to train the employe in the proper use of the computer. The store does not the employees to collect my personal information. When I refused to give her my infromation, she stuck her nose up in the air, and rather nastily said..You decided to pay by cash then? If she is an example of what the rest of the counter staff is like, I won't be back. Excellent products, lousy personal.

Read moreI came in today for some mini sourdough bread bowls for dinner. The place was tiny and cozy, everything you want in a local bakery. The staff asked me what I wanted as soon as I walked through the door, and while I looked around they asked a few more times and I was happy that they were so attentive.
When I finally did order though, one of the staff members forgot to give me my mini sourdough bread, the whole reason I came in. I didn't realize until I checked the bags and recipt while still in the bakery. I had spent about $20 on other baked goods, which is a lot considering this is just a bakery. They refused to sell me the sourdough bread because of the $10 minimum card charge, regardless of the fact that with the bread I would be charged $25 total. I ended up leaving without the bread because they made zero effort to fix their mistake or work with me.
I liked it in there, it was going to be my morning stop on my way to work for a crissant and a coffee. I was even contemplating buying a wedding cake form there. Their cakes were beautifully decorated. I hope they realize that they have just cost themselves hundreds if not thousands of dollars of my business, cumulatively. They definitely need to work with their staff on a few things.
I understand why a $10 limit is there, but when someone spends money and you mess up their order, it should not matter, especially in a case where if the order was split in half it would cross the $10 limit. I hope they can fix this for their future customers. I won't know, though, because I won't return to somewhere that doesn't realize that cusomers are their livelihood and the only reason they are in business. You have to...
Read moreupdate 12/13/2022 today I as at an event that had the same cake as I bought a few weeks ago. The frosting on this one was on top of its game. I do not know why mine a few weeks ago was a looser icing. Todays was what I have had in the past. đ The frosting between the layers was a bit better than on my cakeâŚ.but still not much between the layers.
Ordered a birthday cake one layer white and bottom layer chocolate with cherry nut filling. Not certain whyâŚbut the cake was 4 layers!! It wasnât mentioned that it was a 4 layer cake. The filling of cherry nut was very, very thin. It tasted okayâŚ.but a very thin layer of filling. Not what I expected.
The reason I wanted this cake for my birthday was I had had Kretchmar cake for someoneâs birthday and another an anniversary. The frosting was very much like the cakes of the 60s and 70s I remembered. The cake today had a looser frosting that is very sweet. Again not what I expected.
The price at $34 for this cake was a true sticker shock to me. Not sure if price was this high because of 4 layersâŚ.I wish it had been clarified when phone order was made. An 8â cake was ordered. No discussion to number of layers.
This is a landmark bakery and many many people patronize it and I know this review wonât impact anything. Not my intent. Just neede to share...
