I have been eating at Chang’s for over 20 years and today had the worst experience ever at the Beaverton location. Being that I am allergic to shell fish I try to only go during lunch hours, as to avoid any cross contamination. I always tell the cook about my allergy and they have always been great with it, sometimes they cover my food with a pan top, other times they just cook mine way off to the side and use a different spatula. And many times they say we can’t take a risk and they clean the whole grill and cook Kobe by itself which I think is overkill but is appreciated. So today I went for a family members Birthday and I tell the cook about my allergy and said can you just cook it off to the side because the 3 other people have shrimp on the grill. He looks at me as if he doesn’t understand a word I said, so I watch like a hawk to make sure there is no shrimp going in my food. He proceeds to use the same utensil on all of out food mind you 3 people have shrimp and crab in their meals, the. He carelessly flips a shrimp into my food and I said well I can’t eat that now. I went to the front counter and spoke to a young woman about this and said I either need my food remade or I can’t eat here or I will be in the hospital, she said in sorry let me remake it for you. It gets remade and I eat my meals, we pay and as I’m walking out the door a young kid named (Henry) says “hey so when you come in here to eat next time just know that the food all gets cooked on the same grill and we can’t cook your stuff separate”. I said so would you like me to not eat here anymore then because I have a food allergy and just like any other restaurant there are ways to take per cautions to avoid cross contamination. I also offer to wait until the line is empty to have my food cooked if necessary. Henry felt compelled to let me know that my food allergy is not their concern and to NOT expect them to consider I will be in the hospital if I eat shell fish. I won’t spend my money places that make me feel like my business isn’t appreciated, I didn’t ask to have a food allergy and it does limit where I...
Read moreMy husband is deathly allergic to shellfish. We informed the manager AND chefs in advance of him cooking his food, they said it was fine because they only serve shrimp for dinner (we were there for lunch).
After the first bowl, his lips started to tingle and his throat felt itchy. He went back for a second bowl thinking it was just the spiciness (and because he didn't think it could be a shellfish issue) and we found a raw shrimp in the yakisoba noodles. That explained the itchy throat. I'm so glad it was only 1, because his allergy has sent him into anaphylactic shock multiple times in the past.
We informed the staff, and the manager kindly brought fresh noodles from the back. That's why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. They said the noodles were from the night before, which is why there would be a shrimp in them (someone being careless as they selected things from the bar).
Despite his allergic reaction posing a serious threat, we did not get a refund, nor were we allowed to take home the 2nd bowl of food (which he couldn't eat, due to his throat continuing to close up). They agreed to give his meal a 50% discount, which I appreciated. I do feel that was them getting off pretty lightly, considering this could've been a lawsuit. Other than that, the service was good.
I wanted to leave this review not to be a Karen, but to warn others with shellfish allergies - ask for your noodles (and potentially all ingredients...?) from the back kitchen. This was their advice to us.
Other than that... the food was very good, chefs were on top of it, and the place was clean and nice. We appreciated the staff responding to our concerns. My husband doesn't want to leave this review because he's in an abusive relationship with Mongolian Grill and probably won't give it up, even...
Read moreWow!!! Let me start off by saying this is a smart place to eat. Sounds weird, but let me explain. Plenty of parking once you get here. As soon as you enter you are greeted and taken to your table. A waiter or waitress comes and asks about your drinks. After that they tell you where to go to get your food. The area where the food is clean. They have the meats. I went straight to lamb, chicken, and shrimp. Got some vegetables and put some sauce on amd went to the cooking area where someone took the bowl I created and cooked it amd handed me a plate where when I got to the table there was a bowl of sticky white rice waiting. Once I ate the first plate I didn't taste the taste I was looking for, but here is where the smart thing comes in. It's on me. I created the plate. On my next trip I put in the right amount of everything as well as portions and once they cooked that it was perfection of a meal I so wanted from Asian restaurants. So if you don't like the food, it's on you. Ask any of the waiters or waitress that are there and they from what I saw willingly to help hence my without a doubt my 5 stars. Great customer service from the door until I walked out the door with a real smile. Definitely would come here again. As a matter fact I will be here for my birthday because they do free meals with a purchase on your birthday so perfect place for date night on your significant...
