My guy & I have been coming to Don Asado 's religiously for as long as we've known about it. All of the food is incredible: their guacamole is the standard to which I hold all other guacamole, their asada is always juicy & savory and never has any gristle, my guy has never encountered al pastor better than at Don Asado 's, their homemade chips are perfection, and their strawberry horchata is delicious. We really appreciate the service, too, and have always felt welcomed. It's sometimes quiet when we go in, which is an atmosphere that I appreciate. But we're also happy to see when they're busier, as we hope they continue to get lots of customers and do well as a business. I really don't know where we'd get Mexican food of this caliber elsewhere.
EDITED TO ADD: They catered our reception party of 70+ people in September. The food was absolutely amazing and they had a very professional setup that allowed the hot food to stay hot all evening without us having to do any work. They were also very easy to communicate with as we were discussing catering expectations. It was an...
Read moreI'm so happy to have found real honest to god Mexican food. Over the past four months I have tried at least a dozen "Mexican Restaurants" but all of them were Mexican American style food or more of Mexi-Cali type food. But low and behold I finally found a place to scratch my south of the boarder itch.... Hey now, mind out of the gutter!
This restaurant looks to be mom and pop ran which I love. It's a small location but not in a bad way and was very busy on Friday nite but the wait from placing our order to receiving our food was not bad at all. The prices are reasonable and the home made tortillas are super good. I had the chile verde, the pork was moist and flavorful with just enough fat, yummy chillies and onions. The only downside to my order was the liquid from the pork thinned out my beans but left them quite tasty, oh and I would have loved a few more tortillas but what ya gonna do.
If you want to go have some home style Mexican food you could do a lot worse then coming...
Read moreMy family is relatively new to the area (about a year) and we are in the look out that can meet our standards of San Diego Mexican food.
We decided to try Don Asados tonight. First, the price is right. Tacos are roughly $2.50 a piece and the bean and cheese burrito we got were $2.00 a piece and a decent size.
We got steak tacos and the meat had zero flavor. The plate looked like someone cut up and onion and threw it in there as some were cooked and some were half cooked - which was sincerely odd.
In our bean and cheese burritos, which took 15 minutes to complete, was adorned with large wedges of onion and zero flavor. The green salsa which they included tasted like Liquid garlic with zero heat.
All in all I would not go again. Another place is crossed off the search.
