Late in the week, tired from work, brain-fried and looking for a place to grab dinner for the family is always the challenge especially after 5pm. I wanted to try something different and unique. We haven't had any Mediterranean food worth noting so I did a search and I came across UR. Despite the mixed-reviews, I wanted to try-out this place and give my honest review and so it begins.
When my daughter and I arrived in downtown Beaverton, it was our first time in that particular area and looking for parking was a little bit challenging for her. We ended-up parking about 3 blocks away from the restaurant. Google map told us it would take about a 4 min. walk but I said whatever; it would be great exercise. Parts of the downtown were closed-off for outdoor dining and a kids play area was set-up in the street. They even had huge lawn-chair props- makes for great photos but unfortunately I didn't take any snaps. Vibes were great and the weather perfect.
As what some folks mentioned here, I did notice the young guy running the restaurant didn't seem pleasant, had a bland demeanor and looked quite bored, but nonetheless I wasn't going to let that first impression dictate the rest of the experience. We went ahead and placed 5 orders (Chicken Kabob, Lamb and Beef Kabob, Chicken Shawarma, Chicken Shish Kabobs and Hummus Plate). The guy then told us it was going to be a 25 min. wait so I said no problem.
When we got home, my first impression reaching into the bag was "heft"- the food in the containers were heavy. Just look at the photos I took of our meals. For the amount of money I paid it was enough food to feed 2. I was only able to get through halfway and saved the remaining for my lunch the next day.
The rice was tasty, fluffy and had great texture. Chicken, beef, lamb were all flavorful, not dry, and had great taste The hummus was ok and the pita bread was already cold when we got home
The food was prepared perfectly which greatly surprised me in spite of the first impression at the counter. Don't let that fool you! This guy created a masterpiece for us! He may not be pleasant but he works hard.
I couldn't identify what sort of spice was sprinkled on top but mixing that including the sauce into your rice with your proteins was a tasteful delight! I must say this is the best Mediterranean food I've had in this area; this place has made my top 5 and definitely I will be coming back...
Read more2021 June: We came back for their wonderful lamb shank and kabob. They are very tasty for sure but I am taking off 2 stars this time for the following reasons: 1). Covid protocol: an older lady and a young man in the kitchen preparing for the meal and another man was chatting with them leaning at the counter without mask on. The young man making my gyro had mask on but only one hand with glove on. The older lady preparing my lamb shank had no mask on. The other man was talking to them the whole time nonstop....which really concerned me because saliva/droplets can travel to the food through air and cause contamination. 2). Staff sharing meals: the older lady later sat down with the man and shared a meal with him. Maybe for family members it's common practice but I would think during the pandemic, it's best practice to have separate plates/bowls, especially considering you have customers waiting in the dinning room watching what you are doing... I could be extra paranoid due to being pregnant but for my own safety, I won't come back probably until the pandemic is under control. 2018: So glad we decided to come here tonight! BEST hummus ever!!!!! We had lamb shank and beef/lamb kaboob plate man the lamb shank was huge and it comes with the bread and condiment/salad plate—great value :) Awesome flavors and the owner, super nice...
Read moreActually not good at all. The positive reviews of this restaurant are so surprising. We decided to try it out and were happy to see some menu items clearly labeled “vegan” … however, when we finally got to eating our food (ordered to go), there was some sort of dairy sauce/yogurt that spilled all across the inside and over all the food. I didn’t think it was necessary to specify that we wanted something dairy-free if it was labeled as “vegan” on the menu. If it isn’t a vegan dish but has a vegan-option, please clearly label that.
What we WERE able to eat was flavorless. Hummus, pita, and falafel were lacking taste and the falafel just tasted like oil. The only drinks available were cans of soda.
The cafe itself is very confusing…it’s interior is cluttered and the window is lined with Italian chef figurines (?) … I did a double take inside to make sure we had walked into the Mediterranean restaurant. There were also some personal items scattered around some tables..backpack, etc. It wasn’t inviting, which is why we ordered food to go in the...
