FIVE stars for Nasha in Bee Cave! We're big fans of Nasha in East Austin on 7th Street, so we thought we'd try the new Bee Cave location. We noticed a review saying the portions were small, the naan flat and the food tasteless. Well that does not sound like the Nasha we know at all! When we eat at Nasha the portions are so large, we often get two meals each, one to eat there and another to take home. Also the flavor balances are just exquisite--protein amounts are generous. I wonder if that reviewer was confused with another Indian restaurant? One of the reasons we love Nasha is their generous spirit as well as skill at creating sublime dishes. Our first foray into Nasha Bee Cave proved spot on! Phil ordered a mango lasi which he loved. He also got the Shahi Korma and it came out just as excellent as at our local Nasha. The garlic naan arrived hot and fluffy and just fabulous! I ordered the Biryani with paneer--which is just a flavor fest--with tons of leftovers for another meal! We also got the Papadam (chips and salsa). We like both sauces but prefer the green chili sauce for the chips. Oh and I ordered a cardamom margarita-- our favorite drinks at Nasha. Phil loves the curry margarita garnished with curry leaves and jalapeno slice. The employees were attentive and kindly. We had a wonderful meal there! Overall Nasha on Bee Caves is just as amazing as the one on E. 7th Street! It's a real...
Read moreWe loved the original Nasha location but stopped going there after they removed some of their more innovative dishes from the menu, so we were excited to discover the Bee Cave location while driving up 620 last week. Tonight we gave it a try.
“Disappointing” was the kindest word anyone in our party used. The Tikka con Queso was good and the Masala wings were excellent. Pretty much everything else we had was “meh” at best. The Millionaire Curry is to be avoided at all costs — it tasted like someone opened a bottle of passata and added some garam masala; the flavors really didn’t come together. The Shahi Korma was OK but overly sweet. The Tandoori Chicken was reasonably well received but largely uninspired. The Chile Relleno was a train wreck. I had imagined it was going to be more like a relleno from some place like Fonda San Miguel or El Naranjo: ground meat with raisins and maybe finely chopped pistachios, seasoned with cumin, coriander and cinnamon. I wish. What I got was a plain poblano pepper filled with unseasoned chunks of dry lamb (it felt like it was left over meat from yesterday) and slathered with tikka masala sauce. It wasn’t even battered and fried like a proper relleno.
We all agreed that this was one of the worst meals we have had this year, and don’t imagine...
Read moreNot a good first impression for me. Ordered saag paneer, chile relleno with lamb, and garlic naan as a pickup order for dinner. Portion sizes were very small for the price. The saag had only a few small pieces of paneer and came in a tiny container. Very limited amount of lamb with the chile relleno, and it’s supposed to come with guacamole but there was only a measly little dollop of guac - much less than what is shown in the pics I’ve seen from people dining in.
Two entrees for myself plus naan and was still slightly hungry afterwards. Toal price was $40. Very high for the portion and quality I received. The flavors were just average. Requested mild spice but it came quite spicy. My food was spicy and bland at the same time. Paneer saag is one of my favorite dishes to order when I eat Indian food, but it tasted so dull here. I expected better for what I paid.
As a cherry on top, the woman who took my order over the phone sounded unfriendly. There are other Indian restaurants in the area that leave me feeling overstuffed at half the price with much better flavors. Was excited to have a new Indian restaurant in my area, but I will probably not be returning after this...
