Let me start by saying that I have always enjoyed the food from Sake Express in Mt Holly for almost 20 years, but I can't say the same for the Belmont location. However last night was the most horrible experience I've ever had with a restaurant in this area. We placed an order online and set the pick up location for Belmont. The order was placed at 8:28pm and I arrived there st 8:56pm and was in line behind 2 cars in the drive thru. I pulled up to the window at 9:02pm and was greeted by a young woman asking me if I had an online order as which I responded yes. She told me that there was a problem with my order and it was given away to someone else. I was shocked but thought that they were going to re-make it. She then said that the grill was already turned off and that they would credit the card back and for me to have a good evening. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. After several questions and comments were made she shut the window in my face. I was saying some bad language and that was her reason for doing that. I was so mad, disappointed and felt as if I was being punished for their mistake. She also said that I should have been there before 9 & I told her that I was. She was so rude and never one time apologized for the issue. I asked for a manager and this woman all of 20 yrs old told me that she was the manager, which I don't believe. What makes me so mad about this is that they never one time picked up the phone to call me. My number was listed on the online order. They naturally assumed that I wasn't going to show up even after I had paid in full the amount of $35.07 online. So for my family not getting their dinner and for them to treat me like I was in the wrong she gave me a $10 gift card which felt like more of an insult than anything else. Why couldn't they just call me?? I'm not sure if I will ever go back to Sake Express, but I do know for sure that I will never visit the Belmont location again!! I'm very disappointed in their actions and lack of customer service skills. They should have apologized, re-made my order and offered me more than a $10 gift card for the wait. A replacement meal would have been a lot better than the gift card. Very very...

Read moreI’ve eaten here many times but wanted to share some feedback so this place can hopefully improve. Most of the rice and noodle dishes are delicious! The poke is amazing too! When you order inside, the service is excellent and the food comes out accurately, hot, and fresh.
The drive through can use a lot of work. We’ve ordered through the drive through twice now where they mix up the orders or leave something out entirely. They are friendly and help try and make it right when you call back in, but it’s extremely inconvenient to have to go through all of that when you simply want your food, and to not interact with people as much (idk about others - but that’s why I use the drive through when I do haha!).
I just tried their sushi for the first time last night and was eager to have the spider-roll with soft-shelled crab! It was disgusting. And I say this as someone who loves sushi and grew up eating it as a kid. The seaweed should be crisp, but this was wrapped in what appeared to be fresh, wet seaweed. I don’t believe the crab was cleaned properly, either because parts of it tasted like dirt, to be frank. I will say, the rest of the meal was excellent as always, but sushi should be done properly if you’re going to serve it. It’s labor intensive and an art and if you can’t get it right, you shouldn’t do it at all.
Lastly, I ordered cheesecake one time recently (about a month ago) and the slice was so thin I actually laughed out loud. And it was $4. I understand trying to make money stretch, but please serve a slice of cheesecake that is bigger than the width of my pinky finger.
Overall, I still love this place and will continue to order what they get right- but please fix the sushi, cake slices, and drive-through accuracy. I don’t mind if it takes another 5-10 mins in the drive through sitting there - most customers understand so long as our orders are accurate. But maybe find a different way to communicate from the window to the food...
