Sumac Mediterranean Grill — Restaurant in Belmont

A casual Palestinian eatery. It is on El Camino and has its own parking lot. When we went on a weekday for lunch, there was plenty of parking. You can see the smoke and smell the grill meats from the parking lot. The friendly owner recommended the combination plates where you can pick your own protein and three sides. The beef and lamb Shawarma was a bit dry but the serving size is huge. I had hummus, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh side dishes, all very delicious. The owner claimed they have the best falafel in the country. he wasn’t joking when I tasted one. The outside was crispy and crunchy, and the inside was soft and flavorful, definitely one of the best falafels that I’ve had. Next time, if I come back, I will definitely orders some falafels as the protein. Their grilled chicken Kebab or Shawarma seemed very popular too - many other guests were ordering that. Food did not taste at a 4+ star level. Each dish tried lacked something. The baba ganoush tasted like something was rotten. Food was not fresh-fresh. Rice was slightly undercooked and tasted old. Meat was not hot and was slightly overcooked. Bread was bland. Water was good. Lentil soup was okay, but it was also lacking that special touch; the lemon helped.

2 condiment jars were brought out. One still had discoloring from contents of a previous item.

Customer service was good and service was quick.

3 star rating vice 2 to give benefit of the doubt for restaurant possibly having a bad day which would have been a 1 star were it not for customer service. Of note, I am used to eating very delicious fresh Mediterranean food specifically Greek and Turkish...

I ordered catering for a birthday party, and I couldn’t be happier with the service. Chris was incredibly nice and easy to work with, helping me choose the right menu items and making fantastic recommendations. I needed the food by 10 am, which was earlier than their usual kitchen hours, but Chris promised to deliver it as early as possible, and he did! The food arrived at 10:35 am, which worked out perfectly as the guests had just arrived. Everything was delicious! The chicken skewers were gone in minutes, with the kids choosing them over pizza and fries.
