There were 4 of us...2 adults and 2 small kids. We went there for the first time during the big freeze when everything else was closed. I hate buffets, so we've always avoided them. We were desperate for a hot meal after 3 days of no power, so we decided to give it a try. To our surprise, they had regular menus allowing us to skip the buffet and order fresh food. We ordered Orange chicken, house combo fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, some spring rolls and 4 drinks. We were doing family style. After we were done, the waitress told us the kids could get dessert off the buffet (ice cream, pudding, jello, cookies, etc). They each got a small cup of ice cream. We then went to the register to check out, and the check out girl charged us for 2 additional buffets...like $15 each. We told her we didn't get any buffets. She barely spoke English, and she argued, saying she saw the kids go up there. We explained that the waitress told them they could. Then the waitress acted like she didn't know what was going on, and she suddenly lost her ability to speak English as well. We were furious. We paid, but we will NEVER go back. Food wasn't too bad.....but they lost a family of 4 as customers for life over $30. Then they did the EXACT same thing to our friends who were eating with us. They actually raised hell and exchanged words with them. What made the whole situation worse is that they only accepted CASH....and all the ATMs were without power. We barely had enough cash to cover our meals and our friends meals after Jake's stole $60 from...
Read moreThe egg rolls were fresh and made with a winning combination of veggies and meat.
The dumplings tasted amazing. Not to mention, the dumpling dipping sauce I would buy alone, it was so good! Perfectly balanced and packing major flavors.
Thank you, for adding real wontons to your soup. Apparently, Saigon Cafe, believes they only have to put wonton shells with no meat, flavorings or love. The wontons tasted fresh and had just right amount of spices.
The egg drop soup, had a very one dimensional flavor. Sadly, it lacked any type of dynamic flavor. Bland comes to mind.
My friend ordered the Hunan pork with fried rice. So, much to our surprise; the Hunan pork came with Mexican rice. Hmm, not acceptable by any means. As far as I’m aware, Jake’s is not a Mexican and Chinese fusion restaurant. Unfortunately, the fake fried rice (Mexican rice) also failed in the flavor department. The Hunan pork was made without fermented black bean sauce; lending absolutely zero flavor to the dish.
So, all in all Jake’s is a place that you’d have to know what to order and what not to order. See pic for the “fried rice”....
Read moreDriving through. We thought we’d order some delivery from Jakes. Big mistake! Called three times and the lady who answered put the phone down for over 5 minutes each time. When we finally got our order taken...I was just relieved that part of the experience was over. The delivery was made within a very timely manner and the delivery guy was very nice. Now the food...the garlic shrimp was some variant of seafood delight...the artificial crab was horrible. The shrimp was ok. The hibachi chicken was nothing more than grilled chicken, no vegetables at all in the hibachi. The broccoli chicken...the broccoli was just steamed broccoli and the chicken was flavorless and unusual textured. The fried rice was bland and unremarkable. The broccoli beef was decent. Maybe a 5 out of 10, the pepper beef was maybe a 6 out of 10. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. Bland bland bland... We ordered over $25 and we were supposed to get two free spring rolls. Nope...didn’t get them and yes we asked.
I would not recommend this place to eat. I was very...
