River's Place — Restaurant in Bend

Rivers Place has a wonderful atmosphere and an excellent variety of food!! I go here often with both friends and family as I love supporting small business. I’ve always had a great experience here until today. I came in with two friends who wanted to eat at Nik’ Snacks and I brought my own sushi with me. I understand bringing outside food into another restaurant is not typical protocol but there were plenty of open tables and we were still supporting our local vendors. The only reason I’m leaving this review is because of how the older women with blonde hair working here approached us. She was very condescending and sarcastically asked “Oh, does someone sell sushi here? who does?” Noticing it was clearly brought from an outside source. I would have happily obliged if she nicely said “Hey, Sorry but we don’t allow outside food.” Instead she felt inclined to be rude about it which in return made me confrontational, which I am not. I’m just really disappointed because being the face of a company reflects on everyone and all of my other interactions have been excellent. This is my first negative review ever! I’m hoping this will reach her in hopes that she will approach her future customers...

I went inside to have a beer while I waited on my to go cart food. Super cute spot. Very quaint. The bartender didn't greet me when I sat down at the bar however. Just continued his conversation with the other couple at the bar as if I wasn't there. That went on for a couple minutes, then a guy walked up to the bar and stood at the well and the bartender helped him immediately. Then he helped me. It was pretty disappointing. He didn't ask me how I was, or make any attempt at small talk as you do as a bartender. Just asked me what I wanted and handed me the credit card machine to pay. I'll still go back, but service could be way better. I overheard the bartender say that they were adding an automatic gratuity to tabs on NYE because "people just don't tip that night". Which in my mind I thought, well if they get the kind of service you just gave me, who can blame them? Tips are meant to be earned for great service, not just something that is given no matter what. I have been away from Bend for a short time and was introduced to this location for the first time. This was easy to access, and provided amenities that, for me, are unique to just a food trailer court. The selection is varied and should provide something for everyone. There is even ice cream! They have a cute little food court for your kids to run! Our daughter went straight to it to play. Seating is varied in styles and settings. The gem here, not counting the food, is a large indoor seating area that provides a variety of wines and brews from local sources. There is even a live music schedule posted on the wall for each day of the week. I am looking forward to more opportunities to explore here. My only wish would be for some option for Chinese food.
