So I decided to try to Bagger Dave's in Berkely for the first time tonight. Just to get carry out. So not impressed. Kinda really disappointed. I walked in and not one employee said hello, can I help you or a word. I walked to the carry out counter. Not one person came to help me. I grabbed a sheet to fill out to order. The restaurant is basically empty also. I could see No one coming over to me if they were busy but they maybe had 5 tables seated. Finally after looking around I asked a waitress who had walked past me 3 times now seeing me standing there if someone was working Carry out. She said I'll go get the bar tender. She walked away then reluctantly walked back to take my order. She was not very nice or personable. Even though she seen what I had marked on my sheet she still messed it up. I had to tell her 2 different times. Then I tipped her for just taking my order. So as I sat there I watched the cook make my food and sit it up on the serving shelf for someone to come give me my food. No one came. So after sitting for almost 10 mins the COOK realizes I'm the one waiting for it and asks me to make sure. He said sorry I seen you waiting a while. I thank him and wished I had given him the tip instead. As the waitress who had taken my order had walked up and taken food for someone else's carry out. While my food was next to it. Assuming a table that was leaving. I know she seen it. She went and sat down at a table in the back and knew I was sitting waiting while my food was sitting there. Fast forward to getting home to eat my food I open it and it looks good until I start eating and realizing she entered my food wrong. I ordered pickled onions and she rang up diced red onions. Which I have never ordered. And the taste was so over powering I couldn't eat my food. I ate the burger and had to throw away the rest. I use to love Bagger Dave's in Traverse City. They were always great. And after waiting to try this location I wish I hadn't wasted my money or time. I won't be going back to eat at...
Read moreTucked against Coolidge Avenue, Bagger Dave's serves up gourmet hamburgers. If you're wondering about that name, it's a railway term and a model train absolutely chugs happily around the dining room.
Bagger Dave's occupies a space between a sports bar and a family restaurant. We can take our kid here or have a date night with ease. TVs usually show a variety of sports games, but never at an obnoxious volume. It's usually incredibly quiet if heard at all. The main dining room gets vibrant with conversation but not at a roaring din.
The menu focuses heavily on burgers, including juicy turkey and a mouthwatering black bean. Sides include plump, well-salted fries, sweet potato fries done to a crispy bite, and macaroni thickly swaddled in a creamy cheese finish. Expect to eat heartily. Portions are quite generous with an upcharge for sides or building your own burger if one of their premade selections isn't to your taste. Bagger Dave's also has an extensive drink list and a bar. Their handcrafted pop is particularly popular with my set, as are the milkshakes. We had the unfortunate occasion where the milkshake machine was down, much to my kiddo's heartbreak, but they have plenty to appeal to different tastes.
This spot boasts one of the larger parking lots in Berkley and they can accommodate larger groups (with notice) at...

Pro-tip: get the fried egg runny as a topping. Good bacon too. Update six years later: so they have definitely reinvented their whole theme and menu. No longer do we have the check off your toppings paper with the golf pencils. Some of the burgers are there from years ago and there are several new options for sandwiches as well. Something very new compared to six years ago is that they have pizzas now. The pizzas are kind of old-school. They remind me of something I would’ve had in the 80s. But in this case, maybe they are a little tastier than a classic 80s at home pizza I’ve ordered it more than once so I must like it lol. Burgers are still pretty tasty. Definitely that’s their thing they’re specialty. Fries are always pretty good and the onion rings are particularly good here. Only thing that I have to really complain about is the last several times I’ve been here the train hasn’t been running. I think like real American railroads. It’s been shut down sad, but this is a great place to come. If you’re looking for a classic burger and fries. Pierce section is OK, not quite as good as it used to be, but you can always find something pretty decent...
