I was a bit nervous as we walked in at 6:00 on a Saturday and we were the only people in the restaurant. The server informed us that Breakfast and Lunch are busy but they have a lighter crowd for dinner. The waitress was kind and attentive and helped ease our nerves.
Drinks arrived in fun Mason jar cups and the kids loved the chocolate milk. Personally I opted for some sweet tea and I will say that was my one big dissappointment for the night. The tea just tasted off I'm not sure if it was old or just a sub par pre-mixed tea, but the south would not approve of the sweet tea experience I had when I went in.
When we ordered we tried a smattering of both breakfast fare as well as the lunch/dinner options. The pancakes were hot fluffy and gave that great home town diner feel. Eggs were scrambled with cheese and fluffy hot and delicious. The breakfast burrito looked a little messy but once we took that first bite it didn't matter. The green chili was thick and delicious and the sausage and potoates did not dissapoint either. The only area of opportunity with the breakfast were the grits. The grits were a bit lumpy but being it was 6:00 at night it was not the opportune time to try them and I am hopeful that in the early day they are a bit fresher.
The Patty Melt was the burger of choice and it was fresh and juicy on a wonderful Rye Bread. Overall would give it a 4/5 and gladly have another one. Onion rings were fresh and crisp but maybe a tad on the thin side for the onion slices. Not holding that against them, but would have liked to see just a bit plumper of an onion in there.
Overall Grandpa's was friendly and the food was exactly what we needed. I plan to go back and hopefully see the Hustle and bustle of Brunch so I can experience the actual vibe of the place. Give...
Read moreI only wanted and ordered a basic bacon and cheese omelet. Nothing else because I cannot eat any of the sides without medical and health issues. I got charged for a full meal. I even explained I only want an omelet because of health and asked if it was actual egg or an egg mix, again, because of health issues that can cause me to end up hospitalized. I was told just an omelet was no problem. Unfortunately my egg omelet was not egg but egg mix and I immediately started having a reaction. I kept asking if it was actual egg they cracked opened and they swore it was, but it did not cook like egg, did not taste like egg and my body was telling me it was not whole cracked egg. So i didnt finish the omelet as I immediately started having an immune response and asked for my check. Not only did i not get what I asked for and explained why it was so important that I know what was in it, they charged me for a full meal with 3 sides (all marked fruit) but obviously never brought me any sides and i didnt not order any sides. So I had to pay $18 for a fake egg omlete that caused me significant issues the rest of the day that I only had 3 bites of and for items I never even ordered or received. My first and only experience ever with this restaurant. So disappointed that I have to stop in Longmont or plan a stop outside the area to get basics like bacon and eggs whenever im in Berthoud early sat morings for business. My first recommendation would be to be honest with your customers about the food, what you serve them and dont charge them for items they dont...
Read moreI'm not sure what's going on with this place. The first time we went in it was fine and each subsequent visit its gone more down hill and now I don't think we'll be back.
We went there for my birthday breakfast, the hostess say three tables a head of us that came in later, realized she forgot us and cramed a party of 6 in a tiny booth, our waitress was the worst I've ever experienced. We only had two menus had to ask multiple times for silverware and creamer for coffee By the time we got our creamer and spoons, our coffee was cold. My mother in law was ready to walk out. On top of that our server was very rude the entire time and would disappear for long stretches of time
Additionally, the whole reason we went is that last fall they had pumpkin French toast. Even though it's October, they are still serving their summer menu so I triple regret going here for my only birthday time out.
The reason for the terrible service was "our computer system is down." My mother waitressed for over 30 years with a pen and paper.....plus if thing went wrong she knew when to apologize and how to return to a table with menus and silverware....but I guess that's asking too...
