I genuinely don’t know why we keep coming back here. Yes, the views are gorgeous and the space is beautiful, but the service is so consistently, unbelievably bad that it almost feels like performance art at this point. Every time we’ve come, it’s been a disaster from start to finish. What I’m about to describe from today’s visit is, sadly, not an outlier - it’s the norm. We arrived right on time for our reservation. The host led us to a table... that was still fully occupied with people and uncleared plates. She then walked us back to the host stand and asked us to wait, then disappeared. We waited 5-10 minutes while several other groups arrived and stood around confused, since the host stand was now empty. When we were finally seated, we sat for a while before anyone came by. When our server eventually showed up, we asked for a bottle of sparkling water. He returned five minutes later with tap, completely forgetting the one thing we had asked for. We placed our drink order for a mimosa and a glass of sparkling rosé. Ten minutes later, we got one drink, my husband's mimosa, which was basically just orange juice. We had to let someone know who then had to inform our server who then had to come over to see we didn't have the other drink. We waited 5 minutes before we could cheers. Then came the food. Or rather, some of it. One dish came out, the other was MIA. We reminded them, and after another five-minute wait during which my meal slowly turned into a sad, cold plate, my husband’s food finally arrived. I ordered the frittata (which I’ve had before and liked), but today it looked... stale. Like it had been deep-fried and left under a heat lamp. Not ideal. Now, ambiance. If you’re a fan of the rather loud hum of a vacuum cleaner during brunch, this place has got you covered. They vacuumed twice during our meal. Bonus points if you enjoy sitting directly next to a glowing WiFi access point and broken receptacle while trying to sip your "mimosa" i.e., juice. The staff situation is also wild. There are bussers everywhere, but they can’t take orders or check on anything - they can only offer to “go get your server.” Meanwhile, two managers roamed the floor doing absolutely nothing to improve the situation, unless you count vacuuming. Which, again, one of them did. Twice. Also, they made a point of avoiding eye contact like it was their job. Maybe the consistently awful service is because gratuity (a 20% gratuity!) is included, making it all too easy for everyone to just phone it in. It really is a shame that the service is so atrocious, as the views and location really are stellar.
At this point, I think we come back just to see how low the bar can go. Spoiler: they keep...
Read moreI have never experienced such disrespectful customer service. I was excited to visit Dante for the first time, but after this visit I will never return or recommend to friends.
I made a 3pm reservation for the balcony view and arrived three minutes before my reservation time. I was told our table was not ready and was asked to wait at the bar for our table. I should have known this experience was going to lack customer service and professionalism as two bartenders were in a heated argument in front of customers. I asked the manager, Jeremy, for an update on our table at 3:15pm and was told the party was still enjoying their dessert and he was not sure when they would leave. A few minutes later Jeremy said he could seat us at a table inside as he was not sure when the party would leave. After we were seated, Jeremy offered another table inside with an outside view because the party had just ordered another drink and he was not sure how long we would have to wait. Our party opted to wait for the outdoor balcony view since we made reservations to be seated outside. At 3:45pm Jeremy lets us know our outdoor table was ready.
We were enjoying our food and drinks, but at 5:23pm we are approached by another manager, Caitlin, and she proceeds to tell us that another large party had arrived and they would need our table to accommodate their party. Caitlin offers to move our party to another inside table. I was shocked that our party was asked to move even though we had to wait over 45 minutes for the party prior to us. I couldn’t believe the level of disrespect so I spoke to Jeremy and told him that our party felt disrespected since we were asked to move and yet the party before us stayed as long as they wanted. Jeremy said it was a snowball effect since the party before us extended their time. He asked if there was anything he could do but we felt so disrespected and unwelcomed that we just wanted to leave. I walked back to the table to tell our friends of my conversation with Jeremy. As I am talking to my friends, Jeremy comes to our table and proceeds to tell us that they really need our table and we need to leave.
I thought Dante held a high level of customer service, even to minorities, but in only a few hours was shown the worst customer service of my life. The lack of professionalism and consideration is completely unacceptable. I will never return to Dante and will never...
Read moreThe service here is terrible. We asked specifically for a balcony table when making our reservation. We did not get that and instead as a party of two were given a makeshift table right in the middle of the walkway between the balcony and main restaurant. We asked to be moved as it was a very exposed spot with people walking past constantly and were told it was all they had so we either had to deal with it or could leave!
They then served us a brunch menu despite it being 1:45 PM? I was ready for lunch but the only options were brunch or pizza.
I have been to so many competing restaurants across Beverly Hills and Danté fell so short on service. It’s the little things - the waiter didn’t keep an eye on our water, the wait time was very long to even take our orders and the worst part was after we finished the plates were not cleared away for a while (20-25 minutes). Unacceptable. We finally managed to track down our waiter and ask for the bill 35 minutes after our meal had ended. Had to then wait another 10 minutes for him to process it and give us back the card.
It was too loud and crowded. Very cramped if not in a large group who are given better seating options. Not what you’d expect for this price point at all. It seems they’ve created these makeshift tables to try and fit more people in the restaurant.
The food was fine but I couldn’t enjoy it because of the chaotic ambience. I will say it was under seasoned though - I had the halloumi salad and it came with only 3 small slices of halloumi.
Yes the view is nice but you won’t even see it if you’re indoors and you can get the same view elsewhere in the city.
I hate that I have to write this as I LOVE the Maybourne and have been a loyal customer to various services of theirs but Danté is such a disappointment. My recommendation is for you to eat at the restaurant on the ground floor instead that overlooks the Beverly Canon Gardens. I’ve been there several times and the service was 10/10. I’m surprised both are even part of the same hotel.
My advice is give...
