Last evening we went to Lawry's to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday - reservation under Coyner for 5 people at 6PM. We were escorted to a booth where a couple of male staff members pulled out the heavy table for us to be seated - 5 of us in a booth meant for 4. As the restaurant was crowded with no other seating available, we had to make do. To make matters worse, the table was set for 4 so additional setup had to be unceremoniously added piecemeal first with a napkin & flatware. Had to request a wine glass and the water server came with 4 glasses & had to get another. Not a great start and we all would have had more personal space flying coach. Our server Dea presented herself. Her friendly demeanor helped rectified that bumpy start and all went well until the meat course. My husband ordered a filet minion medium rare. Said steak was served medium well. The overdone steak was returned, without issue, to the kitchen and it's replacement (perfectly prepared) was served at least 10 minutes before the carving cart showed up with the remaining 4 Prime Rib dinners. All main courses should have been served at the same time. What was served was delicious. Now it is desert time and I even had an80 candle to put on Max's desert. We requested the desert menu twice from Dea - once when ordering coffee, tea and espresso. Again, the 3 beverages were not served at the same time - first came Max's coffee in a mug; then Dennis' espresso. Linda had to request her tea twice and it came as a mug of hot water with a tea bag in it - a very mundane presentation. The desert menu was requested a second time and after at least a 15 minute wait, we gave up on birthday desert; packed up the 80 candle and requested the bill. It was like Dea moved onto other people. Said bill arrived in due course; credit cards and bill picked up. More waiting. Young man presents a second duplicate bill and now a third person arrives table side with the original receipt and the credit cards. It was like keystone cops. The Bill is settled and our husbands pull the heavy table out with no help from male staff so we three ladies could get out. Not a very classy exit. Not to pile on here but I went to the ladies room on the way out - what a mess with toilet paper on the floor and the sink counter all wet. Either your female clients are slobs or ladies room attendants are not doing their job. The food was delicious but the service went from excellent to dismal in the time we were there. What was to have been a celebration after theatre among friends of a milestone birthday, left much to be desired. I guess the best term to describe the dining experience is uneven. Some additional training is in order, in...
Read moreI've been going here since I was a kid for birthdays, Thanksgivings, family celebrations, but recently, my experiences have been hit or miss. So, I havent been going here as my "go-to" celebration place. But Ive loved them and never felt the need to voice my negative experiences.
But, mother's day 2025 was pretty atrocious. We came to celebrate my mom's late birthday. (which they forgot as well) Nothing against the food at all, since most of us really come here for the service anyway.
Don't even know where to start. For a place that was always strict on their dress code and "proper attire" it was pretty interesting to see them scrutinize some people for how they dress while some people can walk right in with a sweater or beach clothes. But I digress, on to the actual dinner.
Drinks took 20 minutes+. They had trouble finding what I ordered and gave me a hefty pour.
It took another 15-20 minutes just for the server to come back and ask us to order.
Another 20 minutes for the prime rib to come out. We went with the Japanese cut (special for mother's day) taste was okay. Regular Lawry's cut will stay undefeated. Meal was missing a Yorkshire pudding. We asked for it. They forgot about it.
After we ate. We sat and finished our drinks for about 5-10 minutes. Then for the next half hour, I watched our waiter walk around and check every single table. Consistently making eye contact with me but never coming to check. Our plates have been empty for a while. Nothing on the table. Not even our glasses for water. And we sat and we sat and we sat. So much for that 90 minute dining time. The waiter finally came back! Only to ask if we wanted desert, and was visibly upset when we said no. Rushed away before I even got another word out to ask for the check.
Eventually I got irate and asked the manager for the check. Had no choice. We were sat at 5:30 and it was almost 8.
To even better top off my night, after paying my bill in full. I hear her asking the manager to comp the tables around us $75 each for service being sub par that night.
Hope they figure something out on their busy nights. For anyone that wants the traditional experience, I suggest booking on a slow weekday.
I'm afraid Lawry's fallen into the trap of popularity. Where they focus on volume rather than quality service, excellent standard, and an inviting environment. Will give them a try again, but not anytime...
Read moreLawry’s The Prime Rib – Los Angeles This isn’t just dinner. It’s a legendary LA experience.
If you’re in LA and want a meal that feels like something special, Lawry’s The Prime Rib is IT. From the moment we sat down to the last bite of dessert, everything was smooth, classy, and full of flavor.
We went with the LA Tasting Experience, which came with prime rib, two sides, a lobster tail, dessert, and a starter salad — and let me tell you, it was a full-on performance.
Let’s start with the salad. Sounds basic, right? Nah — they made it an event. They rolled out a massive stainless steel bowl on ice and spun it tableside while dressing it like some gourmet DJ. Fresh greens, chilled to perfection, and that signature Lawry’s vinaigrette hit hard — light, tangy, refreshing. It wasn’t just salad; it was a statement.
Then came the main attraction: The prime rib. Carved right next to the table by a guy who seriously made the moment. I’ve got a video of him slicing it up with surgical precision and hyping the plate like it was his own mixtape. Super friendly, smooth with the knife, and just added this whole layer of entertainment and class to the meal. That energy made the whole experience feel five-star before I even took a bite.
And the prime rib itself? Pure fire. Perfectly cooked, rich, juicy, melt-in-your-mouth. The lobster tail was solid — maybe just slightly under, but still buttery and flavorful. The creamed corn? Elite. Comforting, sweet, creamy — easily one of the top sides. Mashed potatoes were solid, not mind-blowing, but a good base to soak up all that jus. Everything hit the spot.
The dessert at the end was straight-up decadent. Sweet, rich, and beautifully presented — a proper grand finale to the whole show.
Didn’t get a drink this time, but I regret that now — the cocktail list looked classy, and I’m definitely grabbing one next round.
Final thoughts: Lawry’s is not just a place to eat — it’s a place to celebrate. Whether it’s your first time or your fifteenth, they make you feel like a VIP. Between the spinning salad, the tableside carving, the high-quality food, and the top-tier service, it’s a full-on experience that’s worth every dollar.
Highly recommend for birthdays, date nights, or if you just want to treat yourself to something unforgettable. Lawry’s is a true LA classic — and they...
