The bagels are certainly packed full of flavor and very beautifully presented for those Instagram posts and stories, but I still wouldn't necessarily consider it a spot worth visiting on a regular basis.
First off, it's a lovely and inviting space - open and airy inside, very clean and spacious throughout. Placing my order, however, I didn't really find the service to be all that friendly. I understand they're probably relatively crowded on a regular basis in terms of orders, but still - it was a bit off-putting.
Anyways, on to the bagel itself! I went for 'The Lily', which has a LOT of red pickled onions, and also cucumbers, lemon zest, and dill - amongst other toppings. While I did enjoy its light creaminess in combination with the fresh, crunchy cucumbers, tangy pickled onions, and zesty lemon flavors, it also slightly disappointed me in other ways. First of all, like I mentioned already, I just felt there were WAY too many pickled onions. It definitely gave the sense that it was primarily designed for its look on Instagram photos & stories, something I vehemently dislike with 'trendy' foods. The taste, quality, and flavor should come first. And while it was there for the most part, there was definitely some preference given to the 'Instagrammable' aspect of it. The bagel is also just very difficult to eat and keep together, likely due in some part because of that whole 'photogenic' aspect of it. It's just kind of messy and frustrating to try and eat.
Overall, it's a nice cafe space with good quality bagels packed full of flavor, even if they ARE designed in many ways for...
Read moreI must have been to Layla Bagels at least 100 times in the past couple years. It used to be exceptional - easily one of the best bagel spots in the city.
However, lately, the quality has noticeably dropped. The Maldon salt flakes? Gone, replaced with basic salt. The heirloom tomatoes in the Scarlett? Replaced with watery, bland ones that taste more like low-end grocery store produce. The bagels are smaller, the toppings less generous, and the overall experience just feels... diminished.
I get that running a food business is tough right now, but please - raise your prices if needed rather than cutting corners on quality. I would happily pay more for the exceptional quality and consistency you once delivered.
Sadly, many of the friendly faces that used to be behind the counter have moved on too.
I'm taking a break for a few months, but really hope Layla finds their way back to what made...
Read moreWe ADORED Layla Bagels and Coffee! We went to the Beverly Hills one. Charming, incredibly delicious original take on the bagel and more. Freshest ingredients. Amazing delicious combinations which include fresh herbs and seasonings as well as the key ingredients. The tomatoes, cucumbers and onions, the quality of the smoked salmon, and the beautiful fruit bagels with the freshest fruit and wonderful flavor combinations like adding honey to it are THE BEST. This is a casual place with indoor and outdoor seating on a fun block of Beverly Drive. Plus one more thing - the staff is super upbeat, fun, friendly, and they understand the essence...
