I almost never write negative reviews because I hate to hurt small businesses (see my Yelp history) but I feel compelled to write this one.
I ordered a Spanish latte at the counter and was asked if I wanted it for-here or to-go. I replied that I wanted it for here. When my drink was ready, my name was called and I was handed a to-go cup. The person at the counter must've misheard me and selected the togo option on the POS system. No problem at all -- I understand that mistakes happen, so I stood back in line to ask for it remade because I wanted the indoor dining experience with the latte art, coffee mug, sitting at a table, etc.
When I got to the front of the line again, a different employee than the one who took my order asked me if something was wrong with my drink. I smiled and replied, "Hi! I might've maybe misspoke or something, but I think I meant to ask for this for here. Is it ok if I get this made in a mug?" (I phrased it to be ambiguous as to if it was my fault or the employee's because I didn't want to seem accusatory or place the blame on anybody).
The employee glanced at my receipt, then snarkly remarked, "You want this remade? Well, you ordered this togo, so..." and stormed off to have my drink remade.
My girlfriend and I were speechless. First of all, this employee was not the same person who took our order, nor were they in the vicinity when it had happened. How could they be so confident in their assertion that it was my fault? Secondly, I was nothing but courteous and respectful when I asked to have it remade. Again, I get that mistakes happen, and both my girlfriend and I have experience being on the other side of the counter, so I personally find it important to be friendly towards service staff. I don't know why they felt it was necessary to speak to me so rudely when I've been nothing but friendly.
We received our drink and chocolate cake and sat down. We ate in near silence as we were deeply uncomfortable by what we'd just experienced.
With that said, I want to give credit to the staff here for being on top of the busy rush. Everyone seemed coordinated as they diligently pushed out orders. I'm not going to publicize this person's name because I get that working in such a stressful environment can really make someone irritable. But I hope that they realize that such behavior can be very hurtful to a person on the receiving end of it.
I wish that my experience could've been a better one. The Spanish latte and chocolate cake were delicious, but I couldn't wait to be finished with the meal because of the sheer discomfort I...

Urth Caffe has always been my favorite place and longtime go-to when I want gourmet, top of the line lattes, breakfast, and lunch. Lately that has not been the case. I'm sad to report the quality has significantly gone down. As a devoted customer, I have left several messages online via email and made calls with corporate hoping they would get back to me so that I could give them constructive criticism/feedback. Unfortunately no one has bothered responding regarding several issues I have found with a couple of their stores. I'm hoping this review will finally get their attention, but I won't hold my breath waiting.
One of my most recent purchases I ordered quiche. Urth previously carried several options when it came to this particular menu item but no longer does. It is probably not selling well because their most recent and only version (spinach mushroom) is dry, with no flavor. It tastes like scrambled eggs with mushroom and canned spinach thrown on top. I would bet there is not one ounce of cheese in this quiche. I'm starving and I just could NOT finish it. Two giant thumbs down I shouldn't have to continually bother management regarding the flavor and inconsistency of your food. This goes for Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood.
Parking availability is nearly nonexistent at any of their locations. You can either risk getting a $65 ticket because you can’t leave your car parked momentarily with valet for just a pick up they will charge...
Read moreIf you live in LA and have not been to Urth Caffe you are definitely missing out. It is known as a "typical LA place to go," but it is for good reasons. Urth has amazing coffees, lattes, smoothies, juices, etc with BEAUTIFUL latte art and tons of breakfast/lunch options to satisfy anyone with any dietary restrictions. The indoor space has really cool cafe vibes with lots of outdoor space and seating. You order at the front and then take your number to the table you choose and they will bring the food out to you. Make sure to be scouting out available tables while you are in line and hopefully you can have a friend hold the table while you order. The food is definitely pricey so be prepared.
Be sure to stay on the lookout for celebs at the Beverly Hills location. I have spotted a few here over the years.
