Sushi K earns 5 stars on every count… the beautiful atmosphere, lovely server, interesting menu, superstar chef/owner, but mostly for the high quality sushi. It’s definitely the best sushi we’ve had anywhere in LA. We tried a variety of the nigiri, cut rolls, hand rolls, and appetizers, and everything was super delicious. The standouts were, well everything, but if I had to pick I’d say the crispy rice with tuna, scallop nigiri, and eel and avocado hand roll. The rice is perfectly made and the ratio of rice to fish really stands out compared to most sushi (less rice and more fish). There is a small but nice selection of sake, I recommend the Dessai. We ended the meal with the matcha and vanilla mochi which were creamy and just sweet enough to satisfy. The beautiful yet minimalist atmosphere made us feel like we had just entered a high end sushi restaurant in Tokyo, and evoked a feeling of calm as soon as we walked through the door. We sat at the sushi bar and had a fun time talking with chef Tomo throughout our meal. Our server immediately brought water and was always there when we were ready to place an order, without being overbearing. The restaurant is located in a smallish, unassuming storefront on Robertson. Luckily for me it’s within walking distance as I will coming here...
Read moreIn a city drowning in sushi joints, SUSHI:K is the rarest of creatures: a place that actually gives a damn. It’s the kind of spot you stumble upon and immediately want to keep secret, like a hidden fishing hole or a perfect dive bar. The fish? Flawless. At this price point, it feels like cheating. There’s always something new and exciting on the specials board, the kind of fresh bites that make you wonder why you’ve been settling for the same tired yellowtail everywhere else.
For the indecisive or adventurous, the omakase at $78 is an absolute steal, a guided tour of the day’s best offerings that feels almost criminally underpriced. Prefer to chart your own course? You can go with a set reminiscent of Sugarfish or order à la carte like a true sushi ronin.
Behind the counter, Tomo and Wasu run the show with a mix of skill, humor, and quiet pride. They’re craftsmen, yes, but they also seem like they’re genuinely having fun, and that energy seeps into every bite.
If you’re hunting for a sushi joint to call your own, a place you can hit on a random Tuesday without torching your bank account, this is it. I would say don’t tell too many people… but some secrets are...
Read moreWent to Sushi K with a group of friends on a Wednesday night and had an incredible experience. I opted for the chef’s special Omakase, and since it was midweek, I decided to treat the table to a large bottle of Kubota Manju — one of the standouts from their impressive sake selection. The sake list is outstanding, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable.
The sushi was exceptional — most of the fish is flown in directly from Japan and tasted incredibly fresh. The agedashi tofu, made in-house, was silky, delicate, and absolutely delicious.
The service was warm and welcoming, and the chefs were both talented and genuinely friendly. This place has an amazing vibe and top-tier quality — definitely my new...
