Last weekend we ate at Delphine's kitchen, optimistic based off of google reviews, but were unfortunately disappointed with our experience and will not be returning.
The dining experience is confusing. They added our name to a "waitlist" while tables were being cleaned. We waited longer for our table to be ready than others who just walked in and. grabbed a table. Then we had to wait on the same line as everyone else to let them know we received a text message that our table was ready, again, adding to our wait time.
After being seated and handed menus, we were told that we had to order our food at the same line as everyone else, which just negated the entire point of being put on a waitlist and seated at a table. If we had known this, we would have placed our order from the very start.
After you make your order, you are expected to pay and leave tip even before you've received any service or food. It was our fault for assuming we'd have adequate service because that was not the case.
We waited a total of 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Just 3 items: frittata (already made and just needs heating up) and 2 crepes. There were many parties who received their food before us. We wanted to give the benefit of the doubt because they were busy. But not one server or wait staff came by to check on us, offer us water, silverware, or apologize for the wait.
I noticed all the tables around us had large glasses of ice water and we had none. So I went up to the only person I saw available behind the counter who was making crepes, and asked if our table could get some water. She said we could help ourselves to a pitcher with small, plastic cups. I said we preferred actual glasses with ice like everyone else, and she got flustered and said it had nothing to do with her.
I then went to the owner, asked for water for our table, and she also said to help ourselves to the available small, plastic cups and to go right ahead and take the entire carafe of water for ourselves. I was not going to argue at this point so I took the carafe and 3 small plastic cups.
We are now 30 minutes in, no food, no service, barely any water. It was at this point that one of the wait staff comes over, puts her hand on the carafe of water and says "Actually, you're NOT supposed to take this water for yourself" to which I replied, "the owner TOLD me to take this after no one had offered us any water". She apologized and walked away. We were all in shock. I could not believe how she had just spoken to us. I understand that perhaps that carafe needs to be kept available for the entire cafe, but there is a way to communicate that and offer us a replacement of water. The rude tone and attitude was uncalled for and unnecessary.
Then, the food finally comes. One crepe and the frittata. I still had to wait at least another 5 minutes for my vegan crepe bringing us to a 45 minute wait. When the same wait staff brought it over, she slammed the plate so hard in front of me, I thought it was going to shatter. Again, in shock. I was so hungry that I swallowed my words and ate as fast as I could.
After all this waiting, my vegan crepe was bitter and tasteless. I ended up having to go across the street to Atomic Cafe roasters to order a black bean burger just to satisfy my hunger.
Delphine's looked promising on the outside, but they have a serious attitude problem with their staff, confusing set up, and disorganized experience for first timers.
Disappointing and not worth the wait. Will not be returning or...
Read moreAfter moving to the area last summer, we had (up until now) struggled to find a delicious place to have breakfast and nice coffee. We'd tried several local diners and breakfast spots but nothing stood out to us in the flavor department. This bakery and restaurant BLEW MY MIND. My gateway pastry was a Chou Craquelin, a fluffy pastry filled with heaps of delicious tangy cream inside. I came back recently with my MIL and new baby and we sat down and had crepes for breakfast. She had a savory one and I chose the banana + nutella (I swapped nutella for the chocolate sauce). The owner and barista were SO kind to us and the owner also brought over a clean bathtowel for us to place the baby on our lap because I forgot to bring a stroller / baby carrier with my 2nd time mom brain, I thought that was so thoughtful. We also ordered coffees and those were delicious. With my extreme postpartum sweet tooth I brought home a bunch of pastries that have been such a nice indulgence - the pain chocolate, the choux craquelin, blueberry loaf, and eclairs. All absolutely delicious and stayed fresh and yummy for several days at home. Also highly recommend the beautiful white frosted carrot cake, I brought it home for my husband as it was his birthday the day before and with the new baby we couldn't really celebrate. The cream is heavenly as is the cake. I just ate my last pastry and I will be back to have breakfast with my family again! :) Thank you Delphine and all staff for being so wonderful and making the most delicious food!
Also - this place is absolutely charming inside and out. I love the decor and the cafe tables outside that people sit at, it truly feels like you've been dropped into a little cafe...
Read moreThe food was good but unfortunately I will never come back here because of the rude staff. I came here for a work lunch, you order food at the counter and clear your own plate (setting the scene). We ordered two meals, two desserts, and two drinks. About an hour into our visit (still hadn’t finished our drinks) someone on staff came over and asked us how long we’d be because she was starting a “waitlist” (keep in mind this is a self service, seat yourself cafe). Literally not even 5 minutes later another person comes over and says “just so you know, this is a restaurant” I told her my colleague was in the bathroom and when she was done we would be leaving she then responded with “not to be mean or anything, but I am a mean person haha” trying to make a weird joke out of her being blatantly rude. My colleague also mentioned they were rude to her when she was ordering the food at the counter. To add to this, there was another customer who came in around the same time as us who was just sitting at table reading a book, but we were the only ones being harassed about leaving when we hadn’t even finished our drinks. Overall, we felt harassed and disrespected by the staff when we were there for only 1 hour and had made significant purchases for food and beverage. Will not go again and will not...
