I do not leave negative reviews just felt like this was necessary. I’ve tried Catface Cafe three times in last year or so and the experience is always disappointing. The coffee was very good this last time I went in. Very high prices for low quality food. The owner who does the cooking seems overwhelmed and is paying more attention to the people who are coming in and waiting for ordered items than the preparation of the food itself. He doesn’t cook the food in the order it was placed and seems to make food first for people he knows or just randomly. I understand that some items take longer to prepare than others but that was not the case today. The people who came in two orders behind me got the same thing I did but got their food way before I did. It has taken 25+ minutes every time I’ve been in to get two coffees and two egg sandwiches. All the eggs and meat are cooked ahead of time and are just reheated when the food is ordered. I am aware that it is a common practice to par cook some ingredients ahead of time to make final preparation faster in a small kitchen. That being said the final product shows a lack of experience in doing this correctly. The bacon is not crispy and the fluffy egg is over cooked by the time it’s finished. The premade eggs are also kept out on top of the oven. These really should be kept in a refrigerator until an order comes in and then taken out and heated which I assume is being done in a microwave. The general attitude of the staff is snobby. I would not recommend this place and will not...
Read moreWe ordered two sandwiches and an iced latte to go. The Bidderford (egg, sausage, cheddar, gochujang aioli, maple) and the Maine Crab Melt (pimento cheese, Maine crab, bacon, lettuce, tomato).
In hindsight, I wish I had tried the vegeterian options - New Englander (garlic hummus, cucumber, feta, pickled red onion, fig reduction, micros), or, the Granite Point (marinated tofu, avocado, tomato, harissa yuzu sauce, cilantro).
Back to our experience at the Catface Cafe......The server was very pleasant. The food took some time to be prepared since each order was prepared from scratch. We did not mind the wait.
The interior is very comfortable, and the restroom was very clean. We noticed quite a few regulars come in, ordr their "usual". Some of them were enjoying the seating at the outdoor area.
In complete disclosure, I had earlier posted a not very flattering review of how disappointed we were since there was no "crab meat" in "The Maine Crab Melt."
Kudos to Tyler, a partner at the cafe, for immediately reaching out and clarifying the ingredients and how the sandwich is made. It is made with shredded crab meat that is mixed with pimento, cheese, etc. He clarified that based on how crab is used, the sandwich is a "crab melt" and not a "crab roll." That made us change our view of the sandwich. That's why we believe the rating of food is about 4.25.
Tyler's pleasant demenor, his pride in the staff, and his knowledge of food are commendable. We plan to visit the Catface again when we are...
Read moreCatface is exactly what Biddeford didn't know it needed.
The name might catch you off guard (yes, it's a reference to a tree scar—and a clever nod to the historic mill buildings around here), but once you’re inside, it just makes sense. The space is warm, cool, and cozy all at once—like the kind of place where you can either get work done or catch up with a friend for hours without realizing it.
The food? Genuinely excellent. Way beyond your average coffee shop fare—fresh, thoughtful, and clearly made with love (or at least a really great recipe and someone who knows what they’re doing). You’ll want to order more than you planned.
The staff is efficient, friendly, and always on it. No pretentious coffee energy here...just good people making great drinks and making you feel welcome.
One of the best parts? The owner is there, actually there—not just in a back room counting coffee beans. He’s out talking to guests, checking in, creating the kind of environment that makes you want to come back. It’s rare, and it shows.
Catface feels like it belongs in a much bigger city, but somehow fits perfectly into Biddeford. It’s the kind of place that makes you glad you stumbled in—and makes it really hard not to come back the next day. You'll likely quickly become a regular,...
