Not that impressed. Wanted some Chinese food last night, so we figured to order out. Has been a while and we usually go elsewhere, but we wanted Sushi, so we figured to kill two birds by ordering from Koi. Last time ( a few years ago) it was okay, just a little pricey for what you get, but this time tops the cake. Where do I begin?
We spent about $20 more than would have elsewhere, and got about half of what we were expecting, which wouldn't be terrible if what we got was worth it. The food was bland and had no real flavor. -With a dinner combo-plate you get friend rice.... plain fried rice (if you don't want plain white rice.) If you want Pork-Fried rice you need to pay extra. Don't get me wrong, the plain fried rice was the best part of the combo and cooked perfectly, though it also needed a little seasoning. -The Eggroll was greasier than a McDonald's hash-brown and also lacked flavor (besides grease). -The "Wonton Soup" was literally two, small, falling apart sweet(ish) wontons, some green onions, and tasteless broth. I brought it to work today and added the free egg noodles, which seemed to add some flavor to it. I guess technically it is "wonton soup" as it did have wontons in it, but come on. -The Maine dish (sorry, couldn't help myself) -was Generals Tso's Chicken, well-done so it should have been a little crunchy. What I got was an over-cooked pile of tasteless chicken balls in a small amount of sauce that, like everything else so far, lacked any real flavor. GT should have a kick and open the nostrils, while a the same time be sweet enough to merge hot/sweet and kick in those tastebuds. My husband ordered the Orange Chicken, which tasted some-what of orange... other than a hint of orange, it was identical to my bland mess. -The best part of the meal (and leftovers) was the Crab Rangoon's, and they were even a little bland. Does the cook know what seasonings are? Thank goodness for the packets of soy and duck sauce, which I only use like its ketchup and put on things that need something in order to eat. -The Sushi (California Roll) was honestly the only thing worth it price, and it was the cheapest thing on the order.
So now I know.... For Sushi, maybe. For Chinese, stick with some other restaurant that you know and can get...
Read moreService and atmosphere aren't applicable to my review as we got this abomination as delivery. There were four dishes ordered but only the gyoza was average. Everything else was terrible and will be getting their own paragraphs.
First is the wonton soup. The broth was basically salt water and grease with tiny chunks of green onions. It was the second most disgusting part of the meal behind the szechuan beef. The dumpling in it was so salty and gross that it clearly must have been sitting in the stock all day.
The sesame chicken was in a non descript brown sauce that tasted like seafood water. The chicken was undercooked and pink in the middle. The sesame seeds were somehow both raw and overcooked to be hard as rocks. My wife thinks it tasted like fish.
Third and finally we have a double whammy. The szechuan beef was made out of some sort of chipped beef that tasted like ocean water but less salty. The szechuan sauce had no spice and was basically the same sea water brown sauce as the sesame chicken. Finally for the double whammy of the combo dishes, the "fried rice". It's white rice that may have been vaguely cooked in a skillet. There was no flavor. And the vegetables that were in it clearly came from a can. No eggs at all, no protein to speak of to enhance...
Read moreI’ll share as little opinion as possible and let you decide. I called in my order after viewing their menu and photos online as it looked like a decent option and I’m from out of town. I pulled in and there were no cars in the parking lot but the door was wide open. I walked in and there were no customers or employees to be seen. A small child walked out of the kitchen with my bag of food. I do have to say, the eleven year old employee that processed my payment and gave me my food was very professional for an elementary schooler. To be honest, an 11 year old as the face of your business and only employee to be found is not a good look. I paid and brought my food back to where I was staying. My sushi was loose, mushy, gray and lukewarm. The taste was worse than grocery store sushi, and comparable to what I imagine you’d get at an airport in the midwest. I can’t help but wonder if the kid...
