I hate to leave a bad review on what used to be my favorite restaurant in Billings, but unfortunately they have really gone down hill. I took my girlfriend there for dinner last night, she had never been there before and I was excited to go back in after they had closed there for awhile. Right off the bat, we had reservations, we showed up right on time, and we stood there at the entrance for several minutes before ever seeing anyone, I didn't mind, just thought that was a little odd. After we were seated, the first thing I noticed is that the room no longer had that clean, stylish feel to it, it was very bright, which made it very easy to see that restaurant was outdated. The menus on the table we're old, cracked and falling apart. We were there for a Saturday night dinner, I was expecting a nice, warm, dim lit room for a nice quiet romantic evening. There was a birthday party going on down the hall from the restaurant, which is awesome, but maybe shut the doors to that part of the area as the noise completely consumed the entire restaurant. Not sure why, but it also seemed as if the AC was on, the room was cold, my girlfriend ended up putting her jacket back on soon after we sat down, and even I thought it was rather cold, and I love the cold. As far as the service, our waitress was pleasant, though it was very difficult to hear her through the mask she was wearing. Would have probably been easier to hear her if that party was going on. They severed us complementary bread, and it was delicious. I ordered the Hand Cut Ribeye, the most expensive dish on the menu. I was very excited to dig in, I thought to myself, well at least I know the food will be great. When the food was brought out, my first initial thought was, "This looks like a plate from Denny's or Applebee's." The first bite out of my steak and I was hit with the overly sweet glaze that was on the steak. It tasted almost as if they poured sugar all over the steak. I didn't complain, I was doing my best to make sure my girlfriends evening was excellent. So I continued to pretend I liked it and kept eating. Fortunately she loved her chicken she ordered. But about a quarter of the way through my steak I just simply couldn't do it anymore. Could have just tossed a ribeye on the grill with no seasoning at all and it would have been far better than the steak I was served. Thankfully my girlfriend was distracted most of the night by the amazing view. Still has that going for it. I hope they turn that place around soon. It used to be the best spot in town. If you're looking for a spot for a beautiful dinner date, I'd recommend Walkers, or the Buffalo Block. Montana Sky Restaurant needs a lot of work to get back to what...
Read moreThere's a lot of clashing going on at the restaurant, almost like they can't truly figure out what they're going for.
The scenery is beautiful, the interior design is modern, nice, and comfortable, yet the lights are super bright. Not a low light place for romantic dinners at all. No ambient music at all.
Just to tell you how bright the lights are, unless you are standing two feet away from the window, the glare is so bad you can barely see anything other than the city lights from the closest buildings.
Took around ten minutes to order our drinks, and another ten to get them. Took around thirty minutes to get our appetizers, and another hour and fifteen minutes to get our main meal. We were a party of nine that night, so the wait was understandable, but other guests also had a similar wait.
The food itself was okay. We had the fritters for an appetizer, and they were fantastic. Really enjoyed the appetizer. That's about the only positive thing I could say about their food. I ordered the pub burger, something quite simple. Came out perfectly medium, just as I had ordered it. The seasoning was bland, tomato and onions were soft with very little crunch. Really nothing to write home about, seemed like an $8 burger, but costs $18. My sister had the flat iron steak, cooked medium rare, very little flavor and somewhat tough. The fries were the most disappointing. Very thin, with some seasoning, extraordinarily dry and although thin, they were not at all crispy.
All things considered, it's not a horrible experience, just be prepared to overpay and not be blown away. Despite the Hilton name, it is just a mediocre at best restaurant with a decent view. Really not sure who they're trying to attract or impress, considering it's not very romantic, the food isn't great, and food is relatively expensive for the experience, but hey, you ate at the Hilton restaurant on...
Read moreWorst experience in Billings. As a frequent visitor of Billings, I've tried almost everything and been mostly impressed. Usually I can find the "good". I started with the Brown Sugar Old Fashion. No cinnamon stick, no orange bitters or brown sugar as advertised. Tasted like cheap whiskey and a smashed cherry. Did the crab stuffed mushroom as a starter. I couldn't get past the first bite. It tasted like liver. Not sure what was wrong with it, but I wasn't going to chance food poisoning. Moving to the main, I did the Ribeye but with the toppings of the skirt steak. Outside of the ribeye being lower quality fatty cut (and I love my fat) it was good. Season fine, toppings were overload (which was nice) I ordered med rare came out med, close enough for me. Although I did ask if they cooked to spec and she said yes. I should have ordered rare. Overall redeemed the dinner.
The sever was amazing and was very friendly. The view from the 20th floor was nice but Billings doesn't have a "city" skyline. The restaurant was pretty much empty during the dinner rush. I would not return, as there are to many other better spots for little more money. Buffalo Block, TEN, Jake's, or Walkers. $79.50 out the door...
