My sister and I visited Biloxi and stayed at MGM Beau Rivage through a promotion. During our stay, we decided to try Noodles by Jia on a Friday evening. Although we didn't have a reservation, the host informed us of a 30-minute wait. Surprisingly, we were seated at the noodle bar within 5 minutes, which was great as we were quite hungry.
Despite the busy atmosphere, our waiter checked on us within 10 minutes. I ordered a soda while my sister had water, and we placed orders for appetizers, soup, and our main courses. The waiter brought our soups and my soda within 5 minutes, but it took about 20 minutes to get our water. Our appetizer arrived 15 minutes after we ordered.
For the main course, I had the Sticky Chinese Pork, priced at $28.88, and my sister had the Korean Tuna Poke Bowl, priced at $38.88. Her dish arrived after about 35 minutes, but mine came 15 to 20 minutes later, by which time my sister had already finished her meal.
While eating my Sticky Chinese Pork, I noticed that the snow pea pods were not trimmed or destringed. Having cooked my entire life, I found this surprising, especially given the restaurant’s reputation and the high price of the dishes. When I asked the waiter about it, he seemed unsure and vaguely replied that he would mention it to the chef. I explained that I wasn't complaining but was curious and just wanted to provide feedback. His response felt dismissive and didn't address my concern directly.
Additionally, our waiter did not refill our water or my soda. I did ask for a drink to go, but overall, the service left much to be desired.
Despite our experience with the waiter, we still tipped 20%. Overall, I had higher expectations for Noodles by Jia and was disappointed by the service and food preparation. However, I must note that the food itself was tasteful...
Read moreWent to Jia for the first time last night. First, the service and atmosphere were EXCELENT. Our waitress and the kitchen staff delivered our food promptly and were not hovering. The food, however, was vastly overpriced, the portions were meagre and the food itself aside from the egg roll, was no better than available off-the-menu at any Chinese restaurant anywhere else.
Perhaps the restaurant serves something that is above the cut, but I can only base it on what we had. The egg roll appetizer was fairly decent - nothing spectacular, but better than that typically found in the run-of-the-mill restaurant. My wife ordered the Orange Chicken and I had the Szechuan Beef. The Orange Chicken was not crispy at all, rather flavorless and could have come off a buffet. The Szechuan beef had fresh ingredients, but despite the waitress's caveat that it was "spicy", it was actually rather mild and boring. Also, the wonton soup, I was advised, was served in a very large meal size bowl. I asked if I could have a small bowl for a reduced price and was told that it could not be done. In order to get a 1 cup serving of fried rice with our entrees, we had to pay an additional 4 dollars each, and it was rather flavorless.
Further, the portions were small. There was not enough for sharing - I'd estimate less than half of the serving size typically associated with Chinese entrees served on serving dishes.
So, two egg rolls (these were generous portions), orange chicken and szechuan beef (with upgraded fried rice), two glasses of pinot grigio amounted to $98.
Again, perhaps there is something Jia serves which is noteworthy, but based solely on what we ordered, it was just average food quality, below average portion sizes, and vastly overpriced. The service and atmosphere were very, very...
Read moreI waited months looking at the menu waiting to go to this restaurant when my daughter came in town and what a HUGE disappoint!! I guess I can say that they have an incredible group of talented people that write the menu and take pictures because the food really sucked!!! First, the cocktail that I ordered was wrong, the waitress kept trying to tell me that it was right even though the description said mint and there was no mint to be found? I then ordered the signature "JIA" roll and it tasted like fried popcorn shrimp wrapped in greasy rice, no taste at all! Next we got the hibachi (maybe I should have just ordered from the menu) it was horrible!! The soup was tasteless, the salad was ok but the ginger dressing was off. Next, the rice was horrible! How can you mess up rice! Next we ordered the ribeye and chicken and the steak that we were served was no way a ribeye, more of a sirloin!! The only thing that was great was the creme brulee that I ordered for dessert, I had to try to enjoy SOMETHING this entire meal and it was delicious!!!! But the other food was mediocre and tasteless, I have had better hibachi at one of this strip mall hibachi places that was better quality and better tasting food! I expected more from the Beau Rivage!!! The place was also noisey?! I felt like I was in a high school cafeteria and the food tasted like I was...
