If you're searching for a dining experience in Birmingham that goes above and beyond, Cafe DuPont is your answer. My boyfriend, Coe and I recently had the pleasure of dining here, and I cannot speak highly enough of the exceptional treatment we received. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt like treasured guests rather than just another reservation on the books. Our waiter was an absolute delight, effortlessly blending professionalism with a warm, personable approach that made us feel immediately at ease. He was knowledgeable about the menu, offering insightful recommendations that perfectly suited our tastes. It’s clear that he has a genuine passion for what he does, and his enthusiasm was contagious, enhancing our overall dining experience. But the experience didn’t stop with our waiter. The owner of Cafe DuPont made it a point to visit our table, engaging us in genuine conversation and sharing stories about the history of the restaurant and his culinary philosophy. His dedication to creating an extraordinary dining experience was palpable. It’s not every day that you encounter an owner so invested in the happiness of their patrons, and it’s a testament to the exceptional level of service at Cafe DuPont. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the magic of the evening. The elegant decor, coupled with a cozy, inviting atmosphere, made us feel right at home. Each dish we tried was a masterpiece, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. It’s evident that the kitchen staff puts immense care and attention into every plate that leaves the kitchen. What truly sets Cafe DuPont apart, though, is the sense of community and family they’ve cultivated. Every member of the staff, from the waiters to the kitchen crew, treated us with such kindness and respect. They have set a standard that every restaurant in Birmingham should strive to meet. Their dedication to excellence in both service and cuisine is something to be admired and emulated. In a city with so many dining options, Cafe DuPont stands out as a shining example of what a dining experience should be. They have mastered the art of hospitality, creating a place where patrons feel valued and cared for from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. If you’re looking for a restaurant that not only serves incredible food but also treats you like family, Cafe DuPont is the place to go. We left with full hearts and full stomachs, already planning our next visit. Do yourself a favor and experience the exceptional service and unforgettable dining at Cafe DuPont you won’t be...
Read more4.5 out of 5 stars. My husband and I took our son to Café Dupont for his 21st birthday. The night started wonderfully. We sat down and ordered drinks. My daughter (with 9 food allergies) ordered a Shirley Temple. The server asked if anyone had food sensitives, we told him about her food allergies and that we brought her food. He offered to bring her a plate and still asked about the allergies (important later). Shortly after our drinks arrived along with the amuse bouche (smoked salmon crostini with some sort of glaze). For appetizers, we had the seared foie gras (me), the compressed watermelon salad (hubby), and the fried oysters and okra (son). Everything was on point for my husband and my son. The only complaint I had wad the bread with the foie gras was not crispy. This caused a texture issue for me. I needed something crunchy. That being said, the flavor was exceptional. After our appetizers, the palette cleaner came (a watermelon sorbet). Our server even brought one for our daughter because it was free of all her allergens. This made her night. She always loves when she can eat something from a restaurant we visit. We then ordered the following entrées: Cast Iron Seared Large Sea Scallops (me), Farm-to-Table Vegetable Tasting (hubby), and the Grilled Elysian Fields Double Cut Lamb Chop & Roasted Lamp Leg (son). Shortly afterward, we got an alert on our phones that my husband's car was moving. It was being towed (OMG). This immediately ruined his evening (I can't blame him). He left to deal with the car issue and our food was delivered to the table. My scallops were seared to perfection. The crust on the fried potato cake had such a light and crispy crust, not oily at all. My son ate everything on his plate. For a minute I thought the bone in his lamb chop might be a goner. My husband hasn't eaten his food yet (still upset about his car being towed). We decided to skip dessert this time since my husband had just gotten his car out of impound and he was ready to go. I loved our server and I can't believe I don't remember his name! I want to give him a shout-out. Café Dupont is a great special occasion /splurge restaurant. We will return.
Helpful hint: Make sure the correct lot location, on the park mobile app, has been entered before leaving your car! Transposed numbers ended up being a...
Read moreSaturday 2-18 we had reservations at 8. First, the food was very good. Only issue I had was that when my wife made the reservations a week prior there was a good deal of light seafood dishes. On our arrival we were a bit taken aback that there were only two fish options available (one was sold out). Everything seemed a bit hardy and heavy. Steak, Rabbit, Pork, Ox tail & quail. However, I had the Snapper which was very well done and my wife had the Ox Tail. My wife was blown away by her order. Extremely well done. Mine was very good but not the very best I have had in town but no issue with my order.
However, with any outing its about the entire experience. The service was extremely lacking. Our server was nowhere to be found much of the time. We noticed after our meal that there were bread plates on the table and bread would have been nice since it was a busy night and we didn't get our order in until 9-ish although we had an 8pm reservation. We had coacktails that we brought from the bar and didn't ask for wine but our wine glasses stayed on the table the entire meal. We ordered two drinks before the food arrived and when it did arrive and as I began to take my first bite our server rached across my plate to sit my drink and retrieve my empty glass. Small things people who worked as servers while younger notice.
Another problem, when my wife ordered her item she mentioned that she really had a problem with brussell sprouts and asked if something other could be substitued. He said sure, no problem. However, when her meal came the sprouts were not on the plate but there also wasn't anything to replace it.
I hope that Birmingham can continue to attract talent to the city and this criticsism is is aimed at bringing to light issues that marred an otherwise delightful meal. We had brunch Sunday at a place that is much less renowned but the incredibly stark contrast between the service prompted my taking the time to write this review (which is my first). To be honest, I had more than a few people ask me about my b'day meal and I've told each of them the exact same, food was incredible but the service lacked much to be desired and could possibly make this my last at this establishment with what's to choose from in the city...
