China Inn — Restaurant in Bloom Township

Apparently all good things must come to an end. Such is the case here. This WAS the best Chinese takeout in the area. Now it's just a shadow of its former self. The only thing consistent about the quality control here is its INconsitency! I usually order the beef and broccoli. Normally it's very satisfying. Today, it was heavy on broccoli and very sparse on beef! The egg drop soup tasted bland until I salted it myself. Normally I wouldn't have to do this. Today however, someone didn't salt or add MSG to the soup. Again, more INconsistency. While I was there another customer came back in after she just picked up her order. She complained to the attendant that her meal was lacking in ingredients (I'm not sure of specifics). Suffice it to say, they remade the whole meal for her. Those of you who are regulars know that this place hasn't been the same since the lady who worked the front at the register retired about a year back. She was great and apparently was the driving force for quality here. Since she left, this place is hit or miss. Must depend on if they're breaking in a new cook or the day of the week. Perhaps a full moon? Whatever it is, it's not good! One time I found 'dingle balls' (google it) in my food and brought it back. These were tassel-like fringe on the front of the cashiers' blouse that became loosened and fell into food during preparation. Do you think any kind of compensation was offered...uh...NO?! And while the quality of food has dropped off drastically, it's still better than those TV dinner Chinese takeout places like the ones in Steger and Beecher...but...

I wish I could give 0 stars. This company has bad customer service. After telling me my total and bringing my food they decided to make me wait 5 minutes for a phone order they could’ve put on hold. Long story short, they hang up and finally charge my card except it was for the phone order. They told me they would have no issue giving me the difference back in cash rather than on my card. 10 minutes later the lady cooking comes yelling at me because I didn’t want a store credit instead. They took my food that I actually still wanted and told me to get out and wait 10 days to get my money back and they they said they don’t care if it’s their mistake. I should’ve taken the store credit is what the boss said. Their nice acts drop really quickly when you don’t give them the response they want. Late night stop on our way to St.Louis, we were probably the last customers of the night, except for a few carry outs. It's a hidden gem of downtown, we almost did not come in since it looked closed from the outside, the entrance is actually inside the building from the hallway on the right! We were looking forward to the buffet style dining, unfortunately have not realized it was not served that late. We still enjoyed our dinner, freshly made, very delicious, with generous portions to share. Egg foo young was very delicious and crispy, have never tasted one like this, highly recommend!
