Do not waste your energy and hard earned money at this restaurant. We’ve been looking forward to trying this place, but left extremely disappointed and will not be coming back. I read the response of the restaurant and I’m sorry I offended you with my honest review.
It took a while to any employee to interact with us. Finally a young waitress, meek and coy, came over and took our drink and appetizer order.
The service was extremely slow. What seemed like a fine dining restaurant was simply causal and lacked attention to detail.
We ordered the Clams Casino to start. They were overpowered by bacon and lacked any other flavor. Only one piece had flavor and breadcrumbs on top. My partner, excited for me to finally try clams casino, said this was a horrible first experience. We don’t recommend ordering the Clams Casino if you decide to attempt Bloomfield Steakhouse.
Our waitress was nowhere to be found; we had to remind her we needed to order. The salads came out during the appetizer and over crowded the table. The salad is overly bitter and croutons are quite stale- has to pass on the salad and it was a shame to waste all that food.
We ordered the crab stuffed flounder and the 1/2 ribs/shrimp for our entrees and they were dry. The ribs did not fall off the bone and needed to be ripped with your teeth/cut off the bone. The founder was dry and hard to eat. The mashed potatoes did not have garlic flavor and the baked potato was the only decent thing. I’ve had better ribs at Chilis; it’s quite embarrassing coming from an expensive steakhouse. The fried shrimp seemed like it was frozen, which might’ve been why it was the only other semi-decent thing on the plate. Still, hard to chew. Everything is so expensive but there’s such a lack of attention to detail and to reiterate the service was disappointing.
We noticed the table to the right of us get the attention of their server during their meal and the woman said her meat is over cooked and her partners fish is dry. The menu specifically states not to order things medium well and over nice it will affect the dish. After the Maitre D put the menu down to see if the lady wanted to order anything, the man was done with his food by the time anyone came back to see if she wanted to eat dinner tonight. They said no and left with 20% off and an empty stomach. We found it interesting that the restaurant wasn’t doing too hot for a Saturday night… a night where you’re expected to excel as it’s a weekend and most likely their busiest times. It was embarrassing for their business to experience for our first time here.
The Maitre D stopped my partner on the way back from the restroom to ask about our disappointment that we mentioned to our server. We were confused why she couldn’t approach our table directly. We felt we weren’t taken seriously and it’s probably due to our younger age. It was unprofessional that she couldn’t come out to the table and address our issues. Then she had the valor to compare our issue to the table next to us. She suggested that we only admitted there was an issue because they did, but the poor job of the kitchen that night showed a reflection of their business. Sometimes, the customer is right. However, we were complaining out loud and between ourselves since we sat down and had no idea the table next to us was having issues as well. Simply an off night, we assume. My partner told her that “it’s okay, sometimes you have off nights”. The manager said “that’s weird, we don’t have off nights”. After that interaction as my partner was trying to relieve himself, we sat for another 10 minutes with an empty table before our waitress gave us our bill. Nobody brought up the interaction by the host stand to our table. The fact our issue was addressed that way showed us how serious they take dissatisfaction from their patrons and how low they value them. Not only was the service poor, the food was NOT good and we have no interest in coming here. We do not recommend dining here. Try...
Read moreFood was not bad but nothing we had stood out as really good. We were a party of 10 (4 children, 6 adults) The food portions were much smaller than I had expected for the prices on the menu. Peach Sangria was pretty good but we were quoted a price that was $10 less fir the pitcher than what they tried to charge us. It's possible the waitress just didn't know the price. A few dollars is understandable mistake...$10 is not. The wait for our food was TWO & 1/2 HOURS which was completely unacceptable. Everything we ordered was straight off the menu. Very simple. Nothing special. We got there fairly early. They open at 2...we were there by 2:30 so it was before a crowd. They did comp us $50 for the kids meals however tried to recoup that by upping the gratuities to 20%. When I asked to speak to the manager as I didn't feel the service was worth 20% she told me it was automatic for large parties. When asked where this was posted...she stated on the menu. I asked her to point it out. She pointed to "18% gratuity added for large parties". She went on to explain that the waitress had no control over the food wait. I explained that is understandable however she did have control over NOT notifying us of delays, ( i had to go ask not once but twice how much longer would we need to wait for just the appetizers). She had control of NOT coming to ask if we needed more water/beverages...(we were outside in 90 degree weather). Overall not a good experience. The waitress may have been overwhelmed... may have been new to service work but management's shady ways & poor handling of the entire situation prevents me from ever wanting to step foot in this place again. !
UPDATE: Fast forward 3 years and I decided to give this place a second chance (5 adults, 1 child). The wait staff was much better. Much more attentive. I would agree however with the review that described them as "stoic". Not particularly friendly nor welcoming. I'd also agree with the review that stated the food was nothing special. The crab cakes were mushy and were sent back. The fish taco was extremely spicy but I'll take responsibility for not reading the description. The clams were small and nothing to brag about. My mom loved her dish. I believe it was shrimp scampi or shrimp alfredo. Not sure which.
The ambience is nice and I may visit again as a couple but wouldn't do a family dinner here. Way too expensive for food...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews but I am so appalled by the restaurant behavior that I had to. My friends and I, decided to try a new place to eat. Since this place has such great ratings we choose to go Bloomfield Steak & Seafood House. When we arrived my friend tagged our location on Facebook. Our waiter seem to have a attitude when taking our order. We ordered a few drinks which included it one of their specialty drinks. Which was watered down and not at all pleasant. In fact we found this to be true to all drinks the bartender had made.We also expressed to waiter that we did not like the drinks. We had also ordered appetizers which we was also very dissatisfied with. I had crab cakes plenty of times and the crab cake that they served tasted nasty. I could not finish it. We left without ordering entrées based on the drinks and appetizers they serve that's already. On my friends Facebook post regarding her location, one of her Facebook friends asked her how was the restaurant. She reply "nasty". Which then Bloomfield Steak & Seafood House Facebook page as well as the owner (on his own personal page) began to attack my friend. The owner asked her what she was talking about to. To which she express the taste of food and the drinks were unpleasant. Instead of trying to figure out exactly what was wrong with the meal in particular they called her comment "disgusting". Also expressed how she should "stay in Newark", "we don't want your service." Then the owner began to go into a full argument with my friend on facebook which was very distasteful and offensive. If the owner is reading this you should know you own a restaurant. Which not everyone is going to like your food but the manner in which you handled your feedback says a lot about the company you're creating. It makes sense as to why the waiter was rude, he is only following leadership. You said stay in Newark as if it was an insult, maybe you should try visiting some of the restaurants in Newark; Maybe you can learn a...
