What a cool little spot this was. My noble chums and I came by here this past Saturday for a pick-me-up after getting weighted down by Detroit-style pizza down the street. I've often been pretty hard on Bloomfield (the phrase lipstick on a pig comes out of my mouth a lot when they try to improve random stretches downtown like this) but Casa De Flora has a real chance to permanently class the place up. It was pretty easy to spot, and we were presumably greeted by the owner upon entry, who was sitting in the front. I love that small business touch. My first thought upon looking around was that it looked an awful lot like the Sugar Tree Café in Nutley, which is covered in flowers and random decorating schemes with an eye toward the Gram community. This felt like it had more substance though, especially since they literally were selling some of the flowers - it's not just a selfie backdrop. We were actually expecting more of the storefront to be devoted to the flower selling but I can't say that's really a complaint since we came in for caffeine, not floral arrangements.
I don't think we saw a male in the establishment while we were there, and that's not particularly surprising. It's very, very pink. More on the elegant Victoria's Secret side than 80s exercise headband pink, but still. We waited a minute or two for them to clear off the back table, and ended up sitting in a quieter corner in the back (one chum gleefully sat herself on a small sofa while the remaining posse humbly sat in normal chairs). I ordered my tried and true, the rose latte (I think about $5 in total). Beyond the competitive price point, very tasty, and I thought the cup choice was unusual. Nine out of 10 times, you end up getting a classic giant mug, but this was a light, almost aerodynamic hard plastic cup. I love a mug you can wrap your paws around but this was a pleasant chance of pace as well - definitely easier to pick up with one hand. Unfortunately I had just accidentally consumed an entire pizza (I could feel my Fitbit actively judging me and I am officially not logging food in again until 2023 as a result) so I wasn't in a position to excavate one of the intriguing-looking cronuts but they DID look pretty enticing.
From the owner to the barista who took our orders and served us, everyone was very pleasant and professional. My chums were quite taken with the hospitality, specifically citing the attentive waitress. I'm not in this area too often but this is a definite go-to if you're wandering around the streets...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE!!! Need to investigate if they have a restaurant license. If I can give negative stars, I would give minus 100 stars.
NEVER COMING BACK. I don't recommend. Overpriced, poor quality food, dingy environment.
Very limited menu. They don't have a kitchen - all food is made from a waffle maker, Microwave, and maybe a skillet? (I did not see) behind the bar.
Someone should check if this place is certified to serve food that they are offering.
Came in here interested to see what it was all about, I like to support local in Bloomfield. Menu was in an ipad/tablet, and it is very limited to waffles, mini pancakes, cronuts, coffee.
Ordered water to start, we were served TAP water with ice. Was not asked if we wanted bottled water or not.
Ordered waffles Smores for my 5 yrd old daughter, it looked good on the photo and it's what was available from the list that looked good.
I ordered sausage and eggs in a cronut. Sounded good!
Waffle smores came out looking great, a waffle with graham cracker, a piece of milk chocolate, two marshmallows which were not melted. My daughter took a couple of bites, excited, then I watched as she started to be disinterested. I took a bite of the waffle, had to see for myself: it tasted like spongy cardboard smothered with super sweet sugar. No wonder why a child wouldn't want this!
My sausage and eggs cronut was immediately disappointing: the photo looked like it was supposed to eggs over easy but they served scrambled eggs and chopped up meat (I don't even know if it was sausage), instead of sausage patty. The cronut was also spongy and floppy, at this point, everything was just disappointing.
Asked for the bill since my child was rushing me to get out of there, clearly she was disappointed. Was charged for a credit card fee, and I also realized I was charged $2.00+ for the tap waters we were served! Asked the waiter about it, who asked the cashier, and they said "they asked for water, and it's $1.00 per water" which they never disclosed, nor was it in the menu. Never in any restaurant we've ever visited in any country, where we ever charged for TAP water - this was the last straw.
Needless to say, this is the kind of establishment that doesn't make Bloomfield any better. It is completely subpar, food is unhealthy and very low quality - really not that unexpected because they don't have a...
Read moreThe Rasta Pasta is days old with the oil separated, Perdue precooked chicken was used and wasn’t even prepped in a way to look presentable simply taken out of the bag and put onto the days old pasta. They attempted to add paprika to make it look like it was made to order BUT THEY HAVE NO ACTUAL KITCHEN. The “kitchen” is equivalent to the bar sections of a starbucks or dunkin. The Strawberry shortcake waffles I received were not what was advertised. Strawberry Nesquik/Sundae Ice cream type syrup was given to me instead of the pastel pink cream type sauce that was pictured and also came with toppings that were not shown in the picture or in the description. They also advertise items that are not on the daily menu as DAILY items like ex. the collard greens ( Non of the foods have a description on what is in them and what makes them) So I got croissant waffles under the impression I was getting average waffles because of the picture. People say support businesses that are apart of your community but what is that business doing FOR the community??? NOTHING!!, if you want support give support and show why we should invest in you. Food is below subpar and charges 18 dollars for underbaked uncooked chewy “croissant” waffles simply for some fake flowers they put up years ago as if that should correlate to current foods prices (The flowers are not Expendable/Perishable.) We waited to get a slice of lemon for our water for 15 min as if that’s normal and never got it. Instead of the owner asking about our experience with her business she decided to glare and stare whilst she was on her laptop and the server was the one that asked about our experience and told us to tell him how our experience was truthfully. As an actual business owner you would think that she would take an opportunity to receive this information to better the business and maybe show care but no. The ONLY positive experience were the decorations. The entire “restaurant” or cafe is so tiny and even with such a small space it was still so hot in the cafe and the ventilation needs to be addressed. No matter my youthful age or appearance I would still like to be treated with the same formality and professionalism that older or other backgrounds of people received that I witnessed. (iPads as menus don’t make you a luxury dining...
