We went to Aki for my bf’s birthday after we couldn’t make it for a reservation at another restaurant. I saw some of the negative reviews on Yelp but after dining here, I honestly don’t understand how they have a bad rating! The service was amazing, the waitress (sadly I didn’t get her name) was really energetic, very polite and just great. The food was fresh and so yummy! Sashimi and sushi was spot on. The General Tao’s Chicken was delicious, my bf finds a lot of places don’t get the sauce right or the texture is odd but Aki has the recipe to perfection. Price is reasonable.
Also the waitress was more than happy to help me put the cake in the fridge, take it out with candles prepared and the custom topper I bought. In the rush of getting the cake and everything I had forgot candles and lighter, thankfully Aki had some on hand. You’re a lifesaver!
The only cons I would have is that the restaurant was a bit cold- our table was right next to the door so it would be expected. And the bubble tea was more of a slush with a lot of tiny crushed ice, bubbles were a bit hard. But for $4 and convenience, not bad. All in all it was a lovely dining experience. Very glad we found this place, would come here again if I’m in the area.
Tips for parking! Street parking was hard to find and we arrived around 5pm on a Friday, Glenwood Garage is just around the corner next to the Buy-Rite Wine & Liquor store. It’s a 2 min walk from the restaurant. It was only $1 a hr (unheard of?? Cheapest parking I’ve ever seen lol) and for 2 hrs max. But additional is $1 per hr I believe? Not sure tbh. We stayed just slightly over and it only charged me $2. Lots of parking spots available.
(For those who are curious the cake is “Rouge Noir” from Delice Macarons in Cranford. Dark chocolate & raspberry. Custom topper is from GoldenTopper on...
Read moreI'm hangry!!! I ordered food at 3:00 through their online page, called at 4 asking where the food is and was told it's on its way. I waited and waited and waited even longer. I called the restaurant at 10 to 5 to find out where my food was and was told again the driver is on his way. I told them I no longer wanted to wait and wanted to refund cancel my order. 15 minutes later the driver come speeding down my street (mind you neighborhood kids are playing outside) with my order. I called the restaurant because I just wanted a refund. As asked I gave the driver my phone, he hands the phone back to me and tries to give me an $8 refund! This was a $50. Order!!! I called the restaurant back up and was told I get 20% refund not full because the food was made. What?!?! After waiting 2 hours?!? 2 hours!!!!! I declined the bs refund and take the food. To top it off the food was stale and the hot food was cold. Basically sitting for 2 hours!! Never again will that establishment get my business. I'm hangry...
Read moreAlthough the sushi was good, my girlfriend and I were taken aback when we noticed our bill. We had ordered the Sushi For Two entree (which includes 16 pcs of sushi, rainbow roll and dragon roll). On the menu it told us $52. When given the bill, we were surprised to see they charged us $65. When we asked why they charged us 13 extra dollars the waitress just said “oh the prices just went up because of COVID,” which was a poor excuse of an answer in my opinion. On their website, the entree says $66. So, if you’re going to Aki, just know that their physical menu prices are drastically lower than their online prices and you’ll probably have to pay more than you expect. To Aki staff, I highly recommend you update your menus because you can’t be false advertising your prices. That’s not...
