I used to really like this restaurant. However, I ordered the jambalaya and carrot cake today, and the jambalaya was tasteless, and the rice was clearly old. The bread was completely stale and had obviously been reheated to disguise it, and the carrot cake was days, if not a week old. The restaurant is now refusing a refund, even though I've provided proof that I obviously didn't eat anything except the bread. I would recommend staying away. I pulled the container out of the garbage to take a picture to prove I hadn't eaten anything, and they still insist there was nothing wrong with it. **Update to respond to owner: I'm sorry, exactly how long does a piece of carrot cake or toasted bread need to remain in a driver's vehicle before it becomes stale? I'm deeply sorry for the other people you fed this mess to, if that is the case. However, I suspect what actually happened was that you saw that I ordered delivery, and figured you could get rid of some old food and I wouldn't have any way to complain to you. Your response just makes it that much worse. Since bars and restaurants are now closed in Bloomington to any but carry out or delivery service, I sincerely hope other people see this review. There are a LOT of local restaurants that need business, and a restaurant that deliberately tries to pass off bad food to delivery customers should not be considered by anyone at this time.

DAT'S RULES!! you want some well seasoned cajun comfort food while you're in the campus/kirkwood area? wanna sit down for a quick lunch in a bodega with a hot sangwich? outdoor seating on beautiful 4th street with a big ol bowl of creamy crawfish on rice or some silky gumbo? wanna clear out them sinuses with some real HEAT? AND some of the best 'garlic bread' around town? and all for under $10?! Food: amazing! a Btown standard for me since I arrived in 2010. Service: the OWNER behind the register, or in the kitchen. no nonsense, helpful, courteous. Great at recommending food items or hot sauces to go with the meal. Atmosphere: bodega tables/awesome outdoor seating on 4th st. *Should mention they have a great selection of ginger beer (bottled) that goes great with the spicy cajun flavors, and a good selection of hot sauces (free) to choose from to elevate your experience! My top order: Thai Peanut Etoufee🔥🔥🔥 Drunken Chicken🔥 Honorable mention: Voodoo Chicken🔥🔥 Chili Cheese Crawfish Etoufee🔥🔥🔥 Red Beans and Rice (pictures is a HALF order of the Thai Peanut Etoufee, with included side of 'garlic bread' and garnished with the Cajun Hot Sauce)

I'm sorry for the 1* but I just want it to be known that this is not Cajun, maybe, MAYBE CREOLE. I'm from cajun country and the dishes I had, bourbon chicken and jambalaya both need more seasonings. The jambalaya needs better sausage(this is where some heat comes from), bigger/more pcs of chicken, and their is 1 spice in their that is way too much. Bourbon chicken needs some flavor to the roux, salt and heat, to make the "bourbon sweet" not so over bearing. The rice was overcooked in both dishes, whether it's microwavable rice or rice pot, it needs to be cooked less. It needs salt or as some do, cook the rice with some chicken stock to add that flavor to your rice. I never expect perfect or even great cajun food outside of a certain range, but I hope you take into consideration the critiques I've posted and possibly adjust some of the elements in your food. Best wishes, A Cajun.
