I personally loved my food. I got the Crab Fried Rice, and it was very tasty. There was a huge crowd at the door that was all kind of bunched together, all waiting for a table. This pretty much is because they aren't big enough to have a lobby, so I can't blame them too much on that.
My huge complaint is regarding the Vegetable Thai Dumplings. According to their menu, the description says "Steamed, soft wonton skins filled with vegetables". My (vegetarian) wife ordered them off the appetizer menu, and when they arrived, they were appearing not to have been steamed, and instead were incredibly oily. To the point where we took a napkin and soak up a ton of oil off of them. We were up a little bit between our fingers to make sure it wasn't just water, and it was definitely oil. And when she open one up, there were chunks of what looks like me. We fly down a server, who told us that they were steamed, and that the meat-like substance was something to the effect of a soy fake meat product. We said that we did not want any of that, just the way that they were on the menu, so he took them back. Then when they came out again a few minutes later, it was the exact same plate just with a little bit more oil stopped off. We could even see where she had originally cut into one of them, in the same place. Same oily product with the soy stuff in them. Fortunately, my wife is not allergic to Soy, but she is paying very close attention to calories. Because of how much oil was on these, they were essentially inedible for her. I tried one, and it just tasted greasy. I could not get much flavor outside of Drive. When it finally came time to pay, we mentioned that to the server (when she asked us how the food was), and she said that she would see what she could do about that on our bill. They took one whole dollar off the $6.99 meal. Siam house is one of my personal favorite places to eat in Bloomington, but this kind of killed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSiam House is one of those places Iāve been dozens of times, and the food is generally consistent and tasty. The service used to be on par with the food. But these days, no matter what time of day Iāve gone, Iām rushed through my meal so quickly that the whole experience is just ruined. Today my husband and I took our daughter there for her birthday dinner (sheās 5, but wanted pineapple rice, and Siam House has the best). From the time we got our food to the time we got our check was about 25 minutes, for an appetizer and a large meal. My husband and I also ordered a beer and glass of wine respectively, which we had planned to sip š. It wasnāt just one waiter, but a suite of waiters who kept coming by to take plates with food still on them (being eaten!), to ask for dessert orders minutes after we got our entrĆ©es, etc. Only one waiter had any level of engagement, a tall guy with longer light brown hair who was the only professional person we encountered. The others simply rushed by and knocked glasses and plates together as they hurriedly cleared things away. It felt like we were genuinely in the way. In the restaurant where we were paying to have dinner.
We know a lot of restaurants arenāt super welcoming to kids, so we try to go early when itās not so busy. Iām not sure if thatās why we received the treatment we did, but it did seem like childless tables were given much more time. We got there just before 6 and left by 6:20. We paid $64 with tip for two entrees, one appetizer, and mediocre drinks, and left feeling like the whole thing was a mistake. Thank goodness our daughter didnāt realize how we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe service was absolutely unacceptable. To be completely fair the restaurant was very busy when my group went. However, we waited about 8 min before even getting the menus or water, took 20 min to get our appetizer, they gave us the wrong appetizer, fought with us saying that we ordered a different appetizer then what we had originally ordered, waited another 20 min afterwards to get our entrees, and then another 20 min to get the check. The wait staff never refilled our waters. It got so bad that I had to walk across the restaurant to pick up the pitcher and fill all of my table's glasses. I asked several of the staff for things like refills, the status of our orders, and the check. The staff did not give us the time of day. We felt completely neglected and forgotten. The wait staff prioritized the bigger groups in the restaurant which is totally understandable, but we didn't even get basic service. The food was decent but my friend's entree came out cold. I will not be coming back and unless you like awful service I would not recommend...
