Great spot for photos, it's the border between town and gown. Immediately east-southeast are beautifully kept brick pathways through a small forest. Immediately west of the gates is Kirkwood Ave, aka 5th street. Lined with restaurants, bars and the public library, Kirkwood leads West to the courthouse square. 1 block south of Kirkwood is 4th street, boasting an astounding density of international restaurants between Dunn and Grant. 1 more block south brings you to the jewel of Bloomington, a tiny restaurant...
Read moreI'll admit that I just saw the pin and figured I would check this out but as I do my research to write the review, these aren't just pretty gates. The concept of a gateway to mark the entrance to the campus dates back to 1932 but they didn't actually get installed until 1987. And ever since, they are the most iconic spot on campus.
