I chose the worst time to go to Gables Bagels- parents weekend, the morning after the annihilation of Illinois 63-10 :) The place was mobbed, of course. After waiting in line to order for 45+ minutes, I decided to try the Mendoza Brothers Cubano. After my daughter placed her usual veggie sausage breakfast sandwich. I ordered it. Ed was so enthusiastic about it, telling us how great the Mendoza family is, and how they told him it was “the best Cuban sandwich they’ve ever had”, I was skeptical. I know Ed wants to promote his products, but being that they are from Miami, I thought that Ed was just selling me. I too am from Cuban lineage and have a very critical mindset for these. Well, I’m happy to say it was right on. The mojo roast pork and the authentic ingredients were the real deal! My only negative take was that the time delay to get it out left the bagel sweaty and a bit soggy. That just made it a mess to handle but had no affect on the flavor. Gabby, at the register, with her friendly smile and welcoming attitude was a pleasure. Kudos Ed!! Can’t wait to try your new shop in Zionsville on 10/31. Ate it at the curb,...

I ordered 4 bagels and potato pancakes on Sunday. One of the bagels was plain, one of them I asked for the spread on the side and the other 2 had the spread on them. I get my food and walk to my car open the bag and notice I’m missing the side of spread. I go back in and one guy was extremely nice asked what he could do for me I told him I got the bagel just missing the side of the spread. He said no problem and walked back to get it. Another guy came up to me saying he knows it’s in the bag I told him the bagel is but the spread is not, but he’s more than welcome to check. He starts going through the bag then says he’s not going to dig through my food he’ll just get me another side even though he knows it’s in there (after he already started digging in it). It was not in there and I wish I had taken a video of the bag for proof. One of the guys was very nice but the...

Normally this place would get a 4 or 5 star just for the general friendliness. The bagels are on point - there’s a reason why this is the go-to bagel spot in bloom and it’s not because it’s the only bagel spot in Bloomington if you catch my drift.

My bagel order always takes a little longer than usual but today was terrible. I sat there for about 30min total. Once I a saw a queue of about 6 or 7 people who ordered AFTER me I asked about my order and was told it’s being wrapped up. 10-15 min later I ask a second time and finally I receive my $15 bagel - whole thing is cold and room temp.

I can understand busy rush and all but after I’ve already patiently waited longer than I needed to before politely asking about it, making me wait another 10-15min on top to hand me a room temp bagel… that’s diabolical.

for best experience avoid on rush...

Visiting from Alabama for the senior week. I don’t think I have ever been to a business with such an enthusiastic owner. He connected with every customer. He also kept the extremely long line moving but at the same time took the time to connect with us and offer recommendations- asking if we were first time visitors/where we were from. So 10 out of 10 on the atmosphere and culture. We ordered a salted bagel with strawberry- so good and the jalapeño popper breakfast sandwich and split it so we got both sweet and savory. It was a great combo. My other daughter got the jalapeño popper and ended up taking half of it home to eat for breakfast tomorrow- it was very filling. There was a wait time but we expected that because of how popular the place is. That is a normal situation and the owner seemed aware yet grateful to be busy :). Worth the wait.

A great New York bagel in the middle of Indiana. Got there pretty early around 8:15 AM and the place was already buzzing. I kept my order simple and got a classic bagel with lox, it was ready before I paid. It has the feel of a New York deli but there is limited seating. So if you want to eat there you might have some difficulty. I got a coffee to go with my bagel because the sun rises in the East and the coffee was fine, could have been a bit hotter. The bagel though was doughy but not too much and the cream cheese kind of stole the show. Just the right amount and great creaminess to it. If you need a quick breakfast don’t miss out on Gables Bagels. Note the owner, if he is in is VERY NEW YORK, which is fun and entertaining but if you want quiet maybe take your order on the go.
