It was nice to walk into a trusty feeling place. An American steak house with dark wood interiors and a large sturdy bar. We had tried a few experimental places lately and it felt time to go to a "classic" type spot. We walked in yesterday and were immediately brought to the table of our choice, a big booth. Smart, quick service is always a great start. Our waitress was over soon after, and was as kind and pleasant as you could ask for. she had the waters at the ready, and went over the specials with ease. They have a fun cost effective special they do where if 2 people get certain entrees they get an appetizer, desert and a bottle of wine thrown in. After debating a bit, we settled on getting that special. Meanwhile our waitress brought out the complimentary bread. But it wasn't bread, it was hummus and sesame seed cracker sticks. Pretty darn good. So good that we ate it all. We had also added an additional appetizer of crispy Brussels sprouts. By the time the food showed up we were full from the nice appetizers and wine. Oh, the other appetizer I had was the Southwestern tortilla soup. It was surprisingly good. I say that as often its more of a cheap broth. but this bowl of goodness was chunky! My meal was the crab crusted snapper. I had a few bites. It was perfect. flaky and fresh from the kitchen. But I was stuffed so took it home for later. I can tell you even though I ended up having it hours later, it was glorious. Next time we want a classic American classy spot in Boca East, we have our spot.

Tried Max's for the first time on a Monday night. Lively space with plenty of booths, tables, bar seating, and in door and out door options. Despite the buzzing atmosphere, we were seated quickly and service through out the night, though slow at points, was friendly and attentive. There's a focus on the menu to present locally sourced day-fresh proteins. We tried two specials: a pistachio encrusted grouper ($32) and the 10oz Ribeye ($30). To start we had the wedge salad. Portions on everything were massive and very shareable. Presentation was simple for the price point. I'd asked for my ribeye medium-rare and I'd say it was closer to medium. It was served with roasted and sauteed seasonal tomatoes, spinach, onions, and whole Brussels sprouts. The veggies were under seasoned. The sprouts were difficult to eat and cut; would suggest they cut and roast prior to serving. My wife said the grouper was cooked well, but overall the dish ate very sweet and a little one note between the mashed sweet potatoes and sauce. At this price point you are certainly expecting high quality ingredients, excellent service, engaging presentation, and a unique take on the dish. I'd say Max delivers in all but the presentation and unique take. Dishes were not exceptional, but tasty. From a food perspective I'd give a 3.5 and the atmosphere and service bumps it up to 4.

Situated on the Mizner Park strip, Max's Grille was highly recommended by Boca Raton locals. After tasting the crispy shrimp appetizer, I was sold. Honestly, if nothing else, get the shrimp, it's that good. The calamari & zuchinni and crispy brussels sprouts were also great appetizers (and I typically avoid brussels sprouts). The French dip sandwich was my favorite entree, and the Nashville hot chicken was good, but not even close to the greatness of the French dip. The au jus is more like a gravy, but I like the variance. For desserts, the mixed berry creme brulee pie was excellent! The apple crostata is good, but not great. The service was excellent. My drinks were always full, the recommendations were excellent, and I was thoroughly impressed. The only negative thing I could say about Max's is the restroom. It's extremely cramped and was kind of gross. But the easy solution is to use the bathroom later. Everything else was fantastic, and I'll be back to Max's every time I visit Boca Raton.

Classic restaurant that has been at Mizner Park for many years. We went early on a Sunday afternoon to avoid the crowd. Happy hour is available every day until 7:00 p.m. in the inside or outside bar as well as at one of the five tables close to the bar. We decided to order a few drinks and a sushi roll appetizer. The food came fast and our waiter, Peter, was very friendly and knowledgeable. As our main course we decided to go with the blackened mahi mahi and the teriyaki meat skewers. The fish was very flaky and fresh and the meat skewers made with filet mignon was super tender and plentiful. I like the fact that the meat was not drenched in teriyaki sauce and the flavor of the meat was the primary taste. Overall a very nice experience, place was slow on a Sunday but you probably need a reservation on the weekends. Plenty of free parking in the parking garage behind the restaurant. They also offer valet parking.
