I had a Jamaican Food itch that needed to be scratched Friday evening and My man Eric came through in clutch Kevin Durant in Game 3 LOL
I came through with my fam for dinner since I had it bookmarkerd and couldn't believe there was a Jamaican spot in Boonton. Man I think this is the first time in my life I have ever been in Boonton NJ. I bookmarked this restaurant recently because the reviews and picks caught my eye and wanted to go out the box as far as location this evening. Yelp mini Jamaican road trip lol. I have heard some great things about it as well asking around. Well, let's just say all the 4 to 5 star reviews are RIGHT!
Its a decent sized restaurant for eating in but mostly people come for take out from my observation. They have plenty of seating for dining in and there is no actual waitress per say so you seat yourself and someone will take your order just make sure to let them know you eating in. The decor and ambiance is relaxing and calming as well as clean so i was digging it like a shovel (Insert Thumbs Up Emoji Here). The staff was real cool and friendly. Eric's daughter was very funny and down to Earth. Eric makes his own Jerk Sauce I am telling you this dude is the Jamaican truth LOL My rule is I will never eat somewhere for the fist time via take out or delivery because you cannot judge the quality of the food fairly that way. I advised you guys to eat in the first time you go to really enjoy the flavors and quality of the cuisine. Parking is street metered from 7am to 7pm for up to 2 hours.
Listen as for the food Holy Sweet Baby Jesus !!! The Brown Stew Chicken was tender and well season and rice and peas flawless. Curry Goat and Jerk Chicken just perfection. I cant even put in words how good this food is. Two words to best describe the food that consistently popped in my mind were "Authentic" and "Fresh" You can tell that food is made to order. The Mannish Water for true Jamaican grub specialists and lovers is a must try. I will make slap you pastor it taste so good. Also of note the portions are huge for your prices so you get a great quality vs quantity price ratio here. One negative is that make "Callaloo" on Saturday's only which was the main reason I came and you should order it ahead of time they said. Also the Mannish Water is only serviced on Friday which is also a negative lol You cant keep this greatness limited on the menu Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn !!!! The people want the Mannish Water on regular menu rotation Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee !!
Bottom line Eric will definitely be a go to spot for me in the future Great amazing quality food and friendly honest family run business that cares about its product. Eric my brother thanks for the grub and hospitality from you and your family. Great experience !!!
Tips:
There is no Wifi in the restaurant but if you are an Optimum subscriber you can log into there WIFI Optimum hotspot
Parking is not great but not terrible because they are located on pretty busy street in Boonton with tons of businesses. To avoid getting a ticket or having to deal with metered parking I suggest arriving like 6:45pm since you dont have to pay metered parking after 7PM
Mannish Water is only served on Fridays and they run out pretty quickly so call ahead for that particular order. Callaloo takes about 30 minutes to prep keep that in mind when ordering and is only served on Saturday's also recommend calling ahead for this to confirm it is being served.
All patties (Jerk Chicken and Beef) are made on the premises which is super sexy and means it will be fresh. I didn't get a chance to try them but they...
Read moreIn a time of uncertainty and a possible recession. We should be leaving more reviews for businesses that deserve to be recognized. I have went to a handful of Jamaican Cuisine establishments and they were all a disappointment but Eric's Jamaican Cuisine was special. I ordered the oxtail with rice, peas, cabbage and plantains. The food was excellent and the most important part of the meal is that the rice was not mushy. The rice was perfect. Also i will point out that the establishment is on a main street that resembles something like Jim Thorpe PA with all the small mom and pop restaurants and antique stores. So if you are in the area and would like something flavorful and filling. Stop by Eric's Jamaican Cuisine and enjoy. BTW i only finish my entire meal when food is good so this should tell you something from a...
Read moreGood large portions of food. Tasty, but I prefer more spices such as thyme and other common Jamaican herbs. I had curried goat (needed a bit more curry spice), oxtail stew and brown stew chicken. They were all tender and served with flavorful seasoned cabbage, rice & peas and crispy plaintain slices. The waitress was personable and friendly. She was flexible by letting me get two of the dishes as a combination plate. I'm glad that ackee w salted cod fish and escoviche fish are on the menu. I will try those next time. I'm not Jamaican but lived among native Jamaicans for almost two decades and enjoyed their food at least a few times per week and I had traveled to Jamaica for real jerk griiled meats. So I would say I'm a good judge of authentic...
