I recently discovered BON! Specialty Coffee through a friendâs recommendation, and Iâm so glad I made the trip to this charming Beacon Hill spot. I certainly had some hesitation with both the name and locationâfearing it would be one of those viral cafes that looks nice, but in reality was âmidâ. BON! certainly did not disappoint.
Tucked into one of Bostonâs most picturesque neighborhoods, this new coffee and matcha destination has quickly become a standout in the local cafĂ© scene.
What immediately struck me about BON! was their commitment to quality and authenticity. Their specialty espresso menu offers creative drinks that go beyond your typical coffee shop fare (e.g., iced banana latte, iced cardamom rose latte), but itâs their matcha service that truly impressed me. Unlike many places that serve pre-made, overly sweetened matcha, BON! whisks each cup fresh to order right in front of you. While the matcha grade could be elevated slightly, itâs certainly among the better options youâll find in Boston â a city where quality matcha can be surprisingly hard to come by.
The Egyptian tea selection adds an unexpected and delightful unique flair to their beverage menu, showcasing the shopâs commitment to offering something unique for every palate.
While seating inside is limited, BON!âs location more than makes up for it. Being steps away from Boston Common means you can easily grab your drink to-go and enjoy it in one of the cityâs most beautiful outdoor spaces. Itâs the perfect setup for a leisurely morning or afternoon break.
BON! Specialty Coffee strikes that perfect balance of being a serious coffee destination while maintaining the welcoming feel of a neighborhood spot. The attention to detail, from the fresh-whisked matcha to the thoughtfully curated pastries, shows a genuine commitment to their craft. Iâll definitely be returning â and probably bringing friends along to share this...
Read moreThe price for their drinks is astronomical. I understand wanting to curate an experience but personally, I am still throwing away the âreusableâ cup(which at the moment they are out of) and I donât think itâs a good place to invest their money.
Beacon Hill needs a new coffee shop that has fun drinks and Bon could be just that if they found a way to cut down on their pricing a bit. Word of mouth is huge for places, especially around Beacon Hill. $10.10 for a strawberry matcha that really should be $7 or $8 is not it. As it stands right now, Iâd rather just stop at Starbucks or Nero coffee on my way into work to get a matcha that is similar in quality and taste for $7/$8 than pay $10 at Bon.
Their strawberry matcha is good if you are looking for a drink recommendation. I personally didnât like the combo of the matcha with the mango.
I think this place is worth checking out once but they really need to work on lowering the prices a bit, especially if they want to become a spot where people stop for their morning cup of whatever every day.
Spending $10 a day on coffee alone is not feasible in this economy when people are going into the office 3 to 4 days...
Read moreBON! is a brand new cafe serving a wide range of treats, pastries, and drinks as they describe as gathered from all around the world.
The service was quick and efficient, very friendly staff and greeted by the owner who was friendly and helped communicate his menu well. The prices are on par with other locations, though there was a lack of a pastry menu or any indication of how much the pastries cost.
We got a Banana matcha, strawberry matcha, and a cinnamon roll. The Cinnamon roll was good, they warmed it up and it definitely had all the right flavors. The glaze wasn't melted fully, but that wasn't an issue.
The matcha is where the ratings fell. Contrary to what influencers are saying, the matcha was very watery with a lack of any matcha taste. They do prepare it with the traditional way with a Chasen (Whisk), though the matcha was overwhelmed by the syrup and was very light on the flavor. The banana matcha tasted like cinnamon for some reason, and although the strawberry matcha did have a strong strawberry flavor, it tasted more like watery strawberry milk. It was a disappointment, though drinks other than matcha...
