(Backstory)... Let me be completely transparent. I was born and raised on the coast of Florida. I grew up eating all kinds of seafood, but lobster has never been one of my favorites. Over the years, I've always heard people say that you have to visit the New England area to get quality lobster so once I had my vacation details pinned down I knew I would be on the hunt to finally find good lobster. I did lots of research leading up to this trip.
If you've been following me, then you may have come across a preview I did about another establishment in Boston that specializes in Maine lobster rolls. After trying them, I was now on the hunt for Connecticut style lobster rolls. Again, this was a first for me, so I was trying to determine which one was better to me.
I found Cusser's in the Time Out Market on Fullerton Street. Please make sure you visit this specific location.
I'll start out by saying parking is a complete nightmare. No fault of the establishment, but it's in a very busy area with only street parking. I drove around for a while, trying to find someone leaving so I could grab their spot. It is also right near a residential area, and you will be ticketed if tou so not have a parking decal, so be careful.
Now, onto the food. My daughter and I arrived right as they opened, which was 5:00 PM. We order 2 warm lobster rolls, onion rings, and 2 drinks. In full transparency, this meal costs me $92. Yes, $92!!! I couldn't believe it, but I paid it, and thank goodness the taste matched the price. Hands down best I've ever had. The roll was warm, toasted, and buttery. The lobster was so succulent and plentiful. The onion rings WERE TO DIE FOR!!!! I have no idea what seasoning was used in this batter, but it was amazing! The meal also came with 2 bags of Cape Code kettle chips. We paired the meal with a sprite and a raspberry lemonade.
After finally having quality lobster, I now see what all the hoopla is about 😄 Now I know that Connecticut style lobster rolls are my preference. I went the rest of the trip thinking about this lobster roll. So much so that on the way to the airport, I stopped (at a different location) to get another roll. I just had to get my fix before heading back to Florida. Unfortunately, it was just decent, which I why earlier I said make sure you go to the Fullerton Street location specifically.
I can't wait to go back to Boston just to visit this...
Read moreI just left there… My online pick up order was just chilling on the counter when I arrived. Rather than asking for to go bag, I said, let me just sit down and enjoy this because it’s probably already borderline cold, which it was I started with the roast beef because that’s what I anticipated the most after not enjoyed one sits the back bay location I visited once, and truly enjoyed, this, however, was a disappointment. Fish sandwich was even worse and I would complete shock at how much salt was added to such a small piece of fish. It’s sad when you pay top price for a sandwich that wouldn’t even make it alongside a filet o fish McDonalds or BK fish. Fries were cold. Everything was cold fish was too salty. Roast beef sandwich had no flavor and very little sauce. I will not be back by any means anytime soon to any of their locations. As a local guide for the greater Boston area, please go to the North Shore and enjoy a real roast beef sandwich. As far as the fish sandwich goes I’m still without words they would ever sell something so unpleasant.
Thank you to the Time Out Market clean team member who saw the disgust in trying to not waste the $30 bucks spent. She pulled the tray away at the right time...
Read moreI left a review for this place on the time out market as well. I has the roast beef Cusser's 3-way, and the warm lobster roll! I had the lobster roll for lunch fresh and it was soooo good! I prefer mine warm and they offered them warm so that made me very happy. The price was a bit much but i understand they arent inseason locally at the moment so i expected it to be much. I just treated myself that day i guess haha definately worth the price! Not chewy or overcooked in the slightest. Only thing id add would be an option for lemon maybe? I love me some lemon on my lobster! The roast beef which i tried a bite of fresh was really good! Messy a bit in a good way but not too sloppy. Meat was cooked perfectly. I took the sandwich home and reheated it for dinner and it was pretty equally good minus the meat being overcooked due to my oven. Great work...
