Disappointing New Year’s Eve at Mida Back Bay/Fenway We chose Mida in Back Bay/Fenway for our New Year’s Eve dinner, hoping for a special experience, but it fell short—especially given the $75 per person price (not including drinks). While our waitress was kind and the hostesses were incredibly welcoming, the service and food didn’t live up to expectations. The delays were long, and eventually, we were told the kitchen was backed up. One entrée came out cold, the other lukewarm and overwhelmed by an intense balsamic drizzle. The kale soup was the most enjoyable dish, but even that wasn’t particularly noteworthy. To add to the disappointment, our waitress seemed unsure how to pour. This is not a shortcoming on her part as she expressed need for a manager to bring the bottle out as we ordered it. We understand that things can go wrong on a busy night, but the food quality and overall experience simply didn’t justify the cost in any way. For the reviews and excitement we felt, we were extremely disappointed. I feel as if I could have enjoyed a similar but better NYE meal from Panera or any chain pasta place for quite literally a quarter...
Read moreMIDA was a stellar experience for my peers and I. This was suggested to myself from one of my college peers. With 5 of us we received special cocktails and wine that did not disappoint. I ain’t no wine expert but the waiter knew what she was talking bout when it came down to the pairings of the drinks to the foods. They created such a balance that the food that was able to be shared felt light and left us satisfied. I had the gnocchi which was a completely different experience for me. Their take on the gnocchi was an experience. The table and I shared the chicken and risotto. The chicken was juicy and flavorful while the risotto was cooked thoroughly and evenly. We didn’t have desert but the waiter allowed us to engage in our conversation for, before we realized it, 3 hours. Our waiter took care of us and made sure to periodically check to see if we were okay without pestering or making us feel like we needed to leave. Would certainly recommend but definitely bring a good amount in your wallet if you want to enjoy a...
Read moreWent here for lunch. Let me start by saying that this has nothing to do with real Italian food. Never mind the wrong spelling littered all over the menu which would be such an easy fix (and generally a clear give-away that the place is not up to par). The dishes are simply disappointing and some of the lowest quality Italian I've had in a long time (and not in keeping with traditional Italian recipes). The low point after a pizza covered in cheap mozzarella and pecorino (why would anyone mix the two?) was the tiramisu where HOT coffee gets poured on a dish of mascarpone... The only reason I can think of for why these ratings are so high is that a) there are still very few reviews and b) there is a dearth of good Italian options in Boston. What I will say on the positive side is that the service was very attentive and professional and the atmosphere was cute. But if you love genuine Italian food this place should not be on your...
