Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse, Back Bay
Nestled in the heart of Boston's Prudential Center, Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse boasts a reputation for its exquisite steaks and opulent seafood offerings. Anticipation was high for a dining experience that promised culinary excellence. While the meal itself lived up to expectations, an unsettling service experience unfortunately cast a long shadow over the evening, highlighting a critical area of concern in the realm of hospitality and inclusivity.
Culinary Highs:
The evening began on a high note with the VIP Drink, a testament to the art of cocktail-making that beautifully balanced flavor and potency. This delightful concoction set the stage for a memorable meal.
Appetizers:
Our journey commenced with a customizable seafood tower: King Crab: Served either chilled or warmed, We chose the steamed option offering a transcendent taste experience. Tuna Tartare: Enhanced by caviar and a shrimp chip, this dish was a symphony of flavors, recommended heartily by our server. Oysters: Though delicious, the selection felt limited, leaving us yearning for more. Shrimp Cocktail: Well-prepared, yet lacking the distinctiveness to elevate it above the standard fare.
Main Courses:
Porterhouse Steak: This dish stood out as a highlight, surpassing similar offerings at renowned establishments. A5 Wagyu 6oz: Despite its tenderness, the lack of warmth detracted from the overall enjoyment, hinting at better alternatives elsewhere.
Accompaniments + Dessertss
Creamed Corn and Loaded Baked Potato distinguished themselves as exceptional sides. The Butter Cake, particularly with strawberry sauce, ended our meal on a sublime note, its crispy edges crafting a memorable dessert experience.
A Moment of Discomfort
Yet, it was not the culinary journey but a singular service incident that defined the evening. Ellen, a hostess, approached our table with a request exclusively directed at me, asking for the removal of my hat in adherence to the restaurant's policy. This request, seemingly mundane, was laden with discomfort upon realization that it was selectively applied. My dining companion, similarly attired but not subjected to the same scrutiny, and other patrons, unnoticed by the policy enforcement, underscored a painful disparity.
This selective enforcement was particularly stinging, as it seemed to underscore my identity as both Asian and gay, a perception that Ellen's approach inadvertently emphasized. The ensuing interaction, or rather the lack of a meaningful one, with Ellen and the delayed engagement with management, did little to assuage the feeling of being unjustly singled out in an environment that should champion inclusivity and respect above all. But please note when the management did arrive she was delightful and understanding. I exclaimed to her my reason for speaking with her was not for any type of compensation but to share my experience as I would never want anyone else to experience this type of service when spending $$$$.
Reflections on Hospitality
This experience at Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse serves as a poignant reminder of the critical importance of equitable treatment and sensitivity within the hospitality industry. A restaurant's reputation is built not only on the quality of its cuisine but also on the caliber of its service and the warmth of its welcome to all guests, irrespective of their background or identity.
In conclusion, while the dishes served at Del Frisco's were a testament to culinary expertise, the evening was overshadowed by a moment that highlighted the essential need for greater awareness, training, and commitment to inclusivity in the service sector. The true measure of a dining experience lies not only in the enjoyment of the meal but in feeling valued and respected throughout...
Read moreLast night I went to a birthday dinner my in laws and it was horrible. I was very disappointed in not only the food but the service was also terrible. We made a reservation for 930 and when we arrived they didn’t even have a table ready. We had to wait at the bar for about 15 minutes. Honestly this wasn’t that bad I understand things happen, ok. When were seated the waitress took our order and everything was fine. I had ordered a mai tai and it ended up being too strong for me so the waitress said she would get me something else that was more fruity. I said ok. When she bought out another drink it was over flowing. As she walked the drink over to me it was spilling all over the floor. When she placed the drink down it was spilling on the table. I thought this was weird but again,ok. 😒 On top of that, we had to wait a whole hour before our food came out. We were just sitting there waiting. The restaurant wasn’t too busy at the time and there were only 4 people at my table. I don’t understand why our food took so long to come out. I thought this was very unprofessional and was not happy about this at all. We watched other guests be seated and given their food except us. Honestly after a while I started thinking that this was being done on purpose because we were the only black people in the restaurant, besides the waiter. After the food finally came out the disappointment continued. I ordered the king salmon and lobster Mac and cheese. The salmon literally tasted like nothing. It was not seasoned at all. It was like they didn’t even try to season it. It tasted like air. On top of that it was very dry. My boyfriend ordered the lobster tail that tasted like rubber. It was all horrible. No one was satisfied with their food. After waiting an hour for this food, I was expecting it to at least be seasoned. They couldn’t even do that. It was honestly the worst food I’ve ever had. After being disappointed with the food, one of my in laws decided to order something else. He informed the waitress that he would like to order a steak. She said that because it was getting late she wasn’t sure what kind of steak they would be able to make. Ok, cool. She said that she would go back into the kitchen to ask first and then when she comes back out she would let us know. She comes back out and tells us that she had put an order in for a ribeye. After we had waited all this time we changed our mind and decided not to order the steak. She gave us an attitude and said that she didn’t wanna keep walking back and forth so we had to keep the steak. 😳 excuse me?!! I thought as a waitress, apart of your job was to walk back and forth. If you’re tired I understand but that’s not my problem you’ve been on your feet all day. This was extremely unprofessional. We spent a lot of money at this restaurant and it wasn’t worth it at all. I went into this restaurant with high hopes and I was so disappointed. I highly doubt I’ll ever come back.I had a...
Read moreI am editing this review to note that it's been over 2 weeks since I wrote directly to the company as requested in the response below. However, we have still received no response from the direct email we sent to the general manager - Emily Bucchanio or the Landry website. Again, I can't express how disappointing this is as longtime customers of this particular location. There are so many choices for steak in the Boston area, and this one has really changed for the worse. Very sad indeed
We have been long time patrons and always enjoy the service and food at this location. However, this past Thanksgiving was a terrible experience due to unruly drunk patrons and their ill behaved children who ran through the restaurant and yelled throughout their entire visit. It was like a bad Chucky Cheese kids birthday party. Worst of all was that their behavior was not handled appropriately by the manager on duty.
The staff did the best they could - and our waiter was excellent. Several tables trying to have dinner near the bar stand also had a front row seat to the angst being suffered by the bartender being strong armed by several females in the party demanding more liquor after the table was shut off. Oh and of course the children ran up to him asking for drinks - this poor guy. It was unreal. And the fact patrons were subjected to this is really unprofessional and entirely unacceptable.
Management didn't intervene til the party was completely boisterous and screaming at the host stand claiming he was being discriminated for being deaf. Are you kidding me? I think he was still trying to get more drinks or a free meal...Course maybe that is why he couldn't hear the feral sounds of his offspring. Finally, security and the police showed but that was too late for most of the diners. Why wasn't security called before it reached this fevered pitch?
Matters have only been made worse by the fact the general manager has not responded to an email we sent regarding this matter nor did she approach any other guests that evening to offer apologies, etc.
And the customer feedback isn't working properly on the Landry website, so bringing this matter to corporate doesn't seem to be an...
