Have ordered food from hunters to go once and once sat at the bar because of how busy they are. Today, I got to figure out why. Went in with my friend on a Tuesday at about 3:30pm, it wasn’t busy at all so we sat at a table. The host ended up being our server as well she was very nice. After sitting, about 10 minutes later we put in our entire order. Drinks arrived approximately 5-6 minutes later. Espresso martini was phenomenal — perfect foam to drink proportion, my friend had a strawberry tequila and soda which was pretty good too just tasted like a spiked Shirley temple kind of thing. Food came out about 15-20 minutes later granted we did order a couple of items. Mac and cheese with the smoked spicy wings for my friend, both were great. The wings fried to perfection with an amazing dry rub on them. The big shells and breading on the Mac n cheese was amazing. I had the gumbo and was blown away by the flavor profile and depth of the dish. If gumbo can be that good made at a restaurant I can only imagine it made down south by someone’s grandmother !! We had the beignets to end, could use a little more powdered sugar and maybe bake them a little more but they were solid. Also had another round of drinks to end. At one point we did have to flag down our server by having another guest grab their attention but I serve myself so I totally understandable for how slow it was in there but on the other hand that means that attentiveness should be on point. Either way I love hunters kitchen and bar great food good location in southie. Bill was $126 ,. Amazing for two rounds of drinks, meals, and a sweet treat at the end.

Ordered the Mac & Cheese ($16) and Beignets ($10) because they were hyped up in the reviews. - Mac & Cheese ($16): Good portion size for the price—enough for two meals. I can see why people would like this since it is very saucy and rich, but I found it to be too salty, and there wasn’t anything particularly special about the flavor. - Beignets ($10): These were bad to the point where I ended up tossing them, which I rarely do. The beignets were not pillowy at all—just dense and almost bread-like. The chocolate sauce was also weird; it tasted like dark chocolate and bourbon, which isn’t necessarily a bad combination, but it didn’t work here (the description also just reads, “chocolate sauce,” so I don’t know if that’s even what the ingredients were). The high price point of $10 for only four beignets could have been justified if these were good. Overall, I was disappointed by the food. I think the quality is fitting for bar food (which is a low standard), but I was hoping for something more elevated based on the reviews. Also, as others have stated, the inside is obnoxiously loud, though it does look nice.

I made reservations for my birthday celebration and I wasn't pleased by the service myself and my guests received! A red flag I ignored was all the odd requirements that frankly are obvious. The first being a $200 minimum. Obviously with 8 or more guests that will be met. The main one that I should've considered however was the $20 food minimum.

Fast forward to the day of my birthday reservation I was running a little behind. I decided to call the restaurant and ensured them I was on my way. Not even 15 minutes later a friend of mine who already arrived said the manager was asking about myself and the other guests! I told him tell him we are in the neighborhood, but had a hard time finding parking! (Southie sucks when it comes to parking and majority of the side streets are reserved resident parking!) Not even 10 minutes later the manager whose name is Chris calls me! I said the same thing I previously mentioned to the employee and my friend! I don't understand why this man was being so pushy! I called the restaurant no one shouldn't even have asked my friend! I finally got parking & myself and everyone else were seated and given the time we had to order sooner since the kitchen was closing soon which was fine.

We get our drinks and one of my friends drinks tasted like syrup! No grendadine or any of the other stated liquors was being tasted! We sent back that drink. Then our food arrived & I ordered the chicken breast that came with green beans, cranberries & pecans in a glazed served with mashed potatoes. I also decided to order a side of biscuits since I read reviews about how good they are. The food I ate was good, but I wouldn't say it met my expectations from the reviews I read. One my friend's however experience wasn't that great! The side of macaroni and cheese tasted nasty! It looked like it was going to taste delicious, but it didn't taste like macaroni and cheese at all. We then sent that back.

The bill comes and it was way over $400! We found out they were trying to charge us from the drink and dish we sent back among some other odd pricing including the $20 food minimum per person! Come to find out that DIDN'T include drinks! So allegedly we were told they did some fees to compensate or something like that. We got those odd charges and returned items removed after more than five minutes. To top it off I didn't even get a Happy Birthday from the staff! Most places sing that to guests as we all know. The atmosphere was to loud and a little to dim for my liking. We had to speak loud just to talk! Honestly this gave off pub/bar vibes versus a restaurant with a bar. From the nagging from prior to my dinner till the end I am disappointed! This is not how I wanted my birthday dinner to go! I feel the reviews about food are being exaggerated! This was NOT a southern style restaurant! I will not...

Hunters for my husband and I was a hit and miss! We chose it after a long , personally disappointing day. This place was the cherry on top. First, I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine here, we didn't personally have to wait, but the place was busy and clearly popular, so make one just to be safe! This place is for a younger social crowd. Crowded with 20s-early 30s, some things that were just there to drink. Not wheelchair friendly, only hightop seating and elevated booths and small restrooms. My husband ordered the hushpuppies, which were nothing to write home about $8 for 3 lackluster puppies that are no bigger than a golfball. The crab and corn soup, although tasty, it didn't have crab in it as one would expect. For Entrees, my husband ordered the pulled pork and described it as very fatty with a strange flavor that he wouldn't peg as a classic pulled pork, this was paired with the French fries which were good. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which is usually a go-to for me, Hunters version is a flop! The cheese used for the grits is gouda, terrible choice! The dish also had sweet peppers that didn't fit well with the overall terrible flavor of the dish. The sauce was tasty, and the shrimp were perfect, but it wasn't enough for me to continue eating the dish, I ended up sending it back. Sarah, our lovely server was very kind! She replaced my dish for me at no charge and was happy to help with anything we needed. For my second dish, I followed my husband and went to the pulled pork with the potato salad. I like the flavor of the sandwich. However, I did think it was overly grisly. I found myself often pulling grisl from my mouth. The potato salad was tasty however, I got all celery and 1 chuck of potato, which was disappointing.

When it comes to cleanliness, Hunters did pretty well. However, the small bathroom seemed to be neglected during the busy time we were there.

Overall, we most likely won't be going back. I think the theme and overall vibe is cute, same with the good looking menu. These were the main elements that drew us to the restaurant, but the ultimate execution was...

Hunter's Kitchen & Bar offers a delightful blend of Southern comfort food, live music, and a welcoming bar atmosphere. This establishment stands out for its vibrant ambiance and mouthwatering menu that showcases classic Southern flavors with a modern twist.

The appetizers set the tone for an excellent meal. The biscuits, served with Vermont honey butter, were a perfect balance of flaky and tender, providing a comforting start to the dining experience. The smoked spicy wings, accompanied by a cool buttermilk dressing, offered a satisfying kick that wing enthusiasts will appreciate. The standout appetizer was undoubtedly the mac & cheese, featuring a decadent blend of Red Rock Cheddar, parmesan, and Spring Brook Reading Raclette. The combination of cheeses created a rich, complex flavor profile that elevated this comfort food classic.

For the main course, LAMBO'S GUMBO was a true representation of Southern cuisine. The dish featured a harmonious mix of shrimp, crab, and andouille sausage, served over Charleston rice. The gumbo was well-seasoned, with each ingredient contributing to a depth of flavor that transported diners straight to the heart of Louisiana.

What sets Hunter's Kitchen & Bar apart is its commitment to creating a complete dining experience. The addition of awesome live music enhances the overall atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions.

In summary, Hunter's Kitchen & Bar successfully delivers on its promise of Southern comfort food in a lively setting and attentive service. With its delicious menu offerings, from indulgent appetizers to hearty mains, coupled with the added bonus of live music, it's a restaurant that deserves recognition in the local...
