And then there was the mouse…Oh my!

Two friends and I had dinner there after having attended an open-air event at the Pavillion across the street. Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonably cold, wet, and downright hostile for early June, so the glass of Cabernet Sauvignon at the bar portended for a great dinner at an upscale steakhouse or so I thought.

The meal itself was good - not spectacular as one would expect when paying $73 for a bone-in Ribeye, but still good. Our waitress, Jackie, was affable and professional in her comportment and exchanges with our party. I was, however, surprised that after I informed her that the French Onion Soup Gratinee was too salty (plus, there was too much of an herb - thyme, I think - that coupled with the saltiness made the dish unpalatable), a woman approached the table and asked how we were enjoying our meal thus far. We had also ordered the Grand seafood platter, which didn’t disappoint; we said that we were enjoying the platter. I then said that I had returned the soup because it was too salty, and she stated, “Oh, I tried it earlier and thought it was fine.” I replied, “No, it was salty; I don’t like salty food.”

Now, I’m sure the woman who approached our table was a manager of some kind; however, she never said so. Additionally, it’s all well and good that she thought the soup was fine, but I did not. I was the one who had ordered it, not she. The manager, presumably, was not unpleasant in our brief exchange; nevertheless, I found her pronouncement unusual and off putting.

The rest of the meal - two bone-in Ribeyes; a filet; mashed potatoes (for two of us); fries; spinach and button mushrooms - was without incident until we were just about to leave the restaurant. We were the last patrons in the dining room at 10:05 on a Monday night. As we were getting up from our booth to leave, a mouse ran across the floor. It was clear as day as it made its way among the tables. My friend screamed, and I exclaimed, “A mouse!” She then replied, “Oh no, you know how afraid of mice I am. Let’s go.” As I said, we were leaving anyway as the night was coming to a close.

We have been to this Morton’s before and have had lovely experiences, and perhaps we’ll go to this location again in the future, but seeing a mouse in the dining room was a shocking sight and certainly an unappetizing way to...

We just left Morton's in the Seaport and enjoyed a wonderful experience. I made reservations at Ocean Prime to celebrate my wife and our daughter's birthdays. We had a very bad experience at Ocean Prime and left after earing our appetizers. I decided we'd walk up the street to Morton's. We arrived and we were welcomed by Paula(?). As my wife took our daughter to the restroom, I quickly explained to Paula what we had just gone through at Ocean Prime. She asked me a few questions. simply asked that they do their best to help my wife and daughter have a wonderful birthday dinner. I ran to the bathroom simply to wash my hands. I was back in 30 seconds. Mark, the manager, met me and escorted us to a booth. I began to explain how we came to be there and he told me that he's completely up to speed already. When we got to our table, Paula and another employee were quickly putting the finishing touches on our table. Mark pulled the table out to allow us to get seated easier. When we sat down, there were menus with their names on them wishing them a happy birthday. I don't know when she had the time to get those ready, but she did. Our waiter, Jason, was exceptional. He had great recommendations and was very attentive. Paula got him up to speed too and he did a great job. Paula was nice enough to stop by our table and take a photo of us. We enjoyed our dinner and were about to order dessert. Jason came and boxed our unfinished dinner then he brought out a complimentary piece of cheesecake with a candle...nice touch. Paula came back and took another photo of us. Before we left, Paula gave us the two photos in individual frames with happy birthday wishes. I was sure to tell Mark what an exceptional job Jason and Paula did. While we felt special, it didn't feel like they were treating us any different than any other customer. They didn't need to because they know how to take care of their customers. That's something great about them. I'm astonished how they were able to pull together several of the things so quickly. The personal menu and cake meant a lot to our daughter. Definitely visit this establishment. We'll be back! Thanks to Jason,...

A very nice place and the food is delicious. The waiter was super nice and helpful. The only one reason I give 4 stars is that they messed up our reservation. Idk how it works and who's in charge of notifying people who take care of you upon arrival, but it was my hubby's birthday and it supposed to be a surprise where 2 other couples were joining us (as a surprise). Over the phone I explained that we want to sit outside and we need a table for 6 people. I also asked if they can surprise my husband with a special HAPPY BIRTHDAY cake (where they took my husband's name and told that they run a special bday cake ). All the details were confirmed from both sides over the phone. When we arrived we were sit inside. So I asked the person OH WASNT THE RESERVATION FOR AN OUTSIDE TABLE? The person said its not a problem and took us outside to a table for 4 people. Our friends were not there yet and I didn't want to comment anything on that not to ruin a surprise for my husband. While we were looking through the manue I sneaked out to the front desk to explain the situation and ask for a table for 6 people and was told that it's not a problem and they will fix it asap. Meanwhile one couple arrived. So no one came to us to resolve the problem with the table and when our waiter came over again I explained the situation to him and asked if at least he can help us. He quickly managed to to make us comfortable (as it turned out he wasn't even notified of my 2 previous requests). Also the waiter wasn't notified that there should be a special bday cake I'm assuming since when we were ordering dessert and were saying to my husband that he should get something special the waiter asked OH, IS IT YOUR BIRTHDAY? IF YES, I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THAT. So it made me think again that no one gave the instructions on that. So I'm not sure maybe we just got a bad luck with it and its a coincidence. Other than that I have nothing negative to say. The food and drinks were great. Our waiter was...

I might have an unfair judgement here to knock off a star for the service because the first couple times I went, it set such high expectations. We got an early dinner reservation for 5:15 and it was a beautiful day to sit outside. The server came by a couple times to take our order but seemed to be a bit flustered when we were ordering food AND drinks. He had to tell us he would take the food order first and then come back for drinks. He seemed to be young and trying. The food came out but they handed the wrong food to each person. Also, our water was never filled though he came by at least 3 times checking in on us. And towards the end, it almost seemed like he was rushing us out a bit. Granted we sat for a while for a Friday but we had 6 adults and a baby. As for the food, it was mostly pretty good. I had the Filet Mignon. We got it medium so my pregnant wife can have some of the outside pieces that were more cooked, but it was really like medium rare. It might have sat and waited for a bit because it was only lukewarm. I didn't complain and it was still tasty and tender. My wife had the horseradish crusted salmon which was solid. Another friend got the double pork chop which was by far the best main item on the table. The sides were alright...the fries, mashed potatoes, the smoked Gouda au gratin, etc. Everything was good but I felt like improvements could be made on the service, esp for a fancier place.

Here we go again...I'm back at Morton's. Except this time, I'm in Boston, MA. And just in case you didn't read my last review of Morton's in Pittsburgh; they had something to prove. Well, they proved themselves worthy of another visit (probably in Charlotte, NC). I'm not sure where to start, so I will just start...I ordered the almighty tomahawk ribeye. 32oz of "oh my goodness"! Look, I've never, ever, ever ordered anyone's tomahawk ribeye. But I wanted to raise the bar. Because I'm thinking there is no way they are going to let this wrong ($$$$). If so...I got no words. Anyway, they slice it for you and serve it with the famous bone (to prove yes it's the real deal). Now, I ordered it medium and was sharing it with the wife who likes hers medium rare (uh uh). It was about 1 1/2 or so thick and, and we both got what we wanted. It was juicy, tender, and had nice flavor. Now I did put a pinch of salt on it (sorry, Mr. Chef), but that pinch made me want to propose to my wife again. Because that love had to go somewhere. But we were not there for that, just dinner. I don't really want to talk about the sides, besides who cares, I was there for The Steak. Now, I keep hearing about this Cajun ribeye, evidently, this is something I've been missing. So, go to Morton's get steak, try the Cajun because when I go to Charlotte, that's my next feat. You hear that Morton's Charlotte? I'm coming...
