Do not come here. TERRIBLE service and outrageously OVERPRICED (60-70 USD per person). Please save your money and take yourself elsewhere: very scammy vibes from this place.
Our dining experience from start to finish was extremely unpleasant: in the beginning we ordered beef broth, but we were instead given lamb stew which we didn’t want and left a strong lamb aftertaste on our food. The food itself was GROSSLY overpriced (I’ve had better hotpot at places like Happy Lamb for a fraction of the cost). We were also secretly charged extra for getting sauce from the sauce bar and weren’t informed of it until I paid for the bill (there was ZERO indication that sauces would be extra, no signs or menu items anywhere that warned us of this, otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten sauce for our food. Side note, most hot pot places don’t charge for their sauce bar).
We then ordered Pineapple Sorbet dessert, which was advertised as ice cream served in a pineapple. However, when it arrived, it was clearly not fresh and just taken out of the freezer— the pineapple was frozen over and covered in ice, and the ice cream was frozen solid. No matter how much I tried scooping with my spoon, nothing came off of it besides chips of ice because it was a solid block of ice. After I told our waiter that the dessert was frozen for too long, he was VERY condescending and gave us attitude. He then told us the most he could do was “microwave our pineapple” because he wasn’t willing to refund it or give us another dessert. After the waiter microwaved the dessert, it tasted foul and was almost completely melted. The amount of ice cream given was also comically low: 3 scoops with my spoon and it was all gone.
Afterwards, the waiter kept us waiting for 15-20 minutes and didn’t even bother to check if we had finished or not to get us the bill, so I had to go to the front desk and ask to pay. To that, the same waiter gave me attitude again and rudely told me to wait for another member of the staff to take care of my payment. After this nightmare of a dinner was over, we felt upset stomach and discomfort all night from the food we had eaten. Overall 0/10 experience, I’d honestly give this place negative stars if I could. Overpriced, terrible service, questionable food quality, and scammy tactics (like getting secretly charged with no warning for going to the sauce bar). If you’re craving hot pot, go to another place! Also this place artificially inflates their ratings by telling customers to give them 5 stars, so don’t fall for the high rating like I did when I first came here because this place deserves 0 stars for the...
Read more“A New Star Is Born” I'm not going to say this is , by far, the best new hotpot in Boston area. Frankly, I haven't tried them all, but this is my favorite after 2 visits. They use high quality ingredients, the broth was a real deal, y’all can see it did not look similar with most hotpot places in Boston, it’s worth the price ,and damn the Sichuan broth was firing spicy but in a good way tho. Their sauce station is beautiful, clean and well organized, some great side dishes including fried sticky rice with brown sugar which really helped calm the heat. Drinks selection is a huge plus. Who knows we can drink good and creative cocktails with Hotpot rather than just beers and wines or tea. Roselle Blossom and La belle are nice. Ladies will def love these sweet-touched cocktails. Do yourself a favor to order “boneless short rib, marinated pork ribs, warriors beef skewers..” Ambiance is cool .Service is friendly attentive enough which did not make us feel pushed - Everyone speaks English well, so non-Chinese speakers like us feel welcomed.
Definitely come back soon. Downside : Close...
Read moreWow, what should I say. This hot pot place is definitely impressive, at least everyone in my four-people party agrees. We talked about how much we like their hot pot during the dinner and kept talking about how good the dinner was hours after the meal.
We think it’s because Sha Da Xia’s soup base—especially the spicy one—is special. The spicy pot is spicy to the right extent. Not so spicy that you have to drink water, neither is it bland that you don’t feel any kicks. And the spiciness actually makes food taste better, no kidding. I know this sounds vague and like bs, but if you go try it yourself you’d understand me. (We ordered the max spicy level, just FYI.)
Other aspects about this place are all good—busy but reachable service, thoughtful and authentic Chinese decor, new facilities, and a wide selection of sauces/condiments.
IMO this place has topped all the hot pots I’ve had in Boston, including La Mei and Liu Yi Shou. I hope they can keep up the taste and service, because I’ll be...
