My husband and I visited Game On at Fenway this past weekend before a show at the House of Blues. I worked in the Fenway neighborhood until 2007, and I always liked Game On. They had a good atmosphere and good food. I'd heard they had gone downhill, but I wasn't prepared for how much. The first hint should've been that no one was in there while there were still lines to get into the Cask N Flagon and Beer Works. The music was LOUD. And it was all over the place. They had lights going as if it were some kind of dance club, rather than 7:30pm on a Sunday at a sports bar. There was no one to greet us other than a bouncer who checked our ID's. We approached the bartender and asked if they were serving food, and he said yes, but when we asked if we could sit at a table, he seemed a little less sure and said he'd find a waitress for us. Okay. We sat down and eventually a waitress came over to take our drink order -- one beer, one soda. And she eventually came back to take our food order. And eventually our drinks came. And eventually our nachos came -- they were lukewarm, jarred salsa , some haphazard black beans and that was about it. After we were well done with the nachos, the salads we ordered showed up. Salads don't take that long. Not only were they overpriced for the actual size of the salad, the salad was less than nothing special. It wasn't that the lettuce was bad or anything, but it had no flavor, nothing of interest, lukewarm chicken strips that amounted to maybe 2oz of chicken. My husband's chicken caesar salad was the same. The bill was $52. I almost asked to talk to the manager, but I didn't want to dampen our night before the show so we left. I don't write a lot of reviews, but I was so unbelievably disappointed in this experience. Honestly, it made me sad. This used to be a great place to get turkey tips or a burger and a drink -- now, I'd...
Read moreI just left the love island "live watch" "event" here because of how poorly it was put together. It was on the event website. It says that it is free entry and instructed to sign up for tickets, nowhere does it say to reserve a table. So when my friend and I got there at 6pm, we were not on the reservation list for 9 PM, because we didn't know we had to, and the ticket says the event started at 6 PM. We asked to sit at a table, we were told weren't allowed to sit at any of the reserved tables that weren't going to be used until 9 PM, we try to sit at the bar, a patron says that there are 2 people sitting there; a white older man, and no one came back to those spots, it was very unwelcoming and poorly organized. It felt discriminatory and unwelcoming, kind of also seemed like the hostess and maybe the other waitress there, 2 young girls, may have already had reserved seats for their friends, and seemed very confused about our ticket saying 6pm. None of it was put together and even though event was free instruction was not clear. It was so unwelcoming. And there was nowhere to sit or actually have a drink. They could have accommodated us. Let us have a meal and once the bar cleared out we could have went over to the bar once the event started to free up that table for any reservation. But we were there at 6 PM because our ticket said 6 PM. And it was just really unwelcoming. And I'm really disappointed because I was excited to do a live watch of the show. And you know, if you want diverse patrons, you should be a little more organized and accommodating, the event details should specify reserving a table. We planned to spend money there until the event ending even after finding out we were 2...
Read moreAs a long-time Boston visitor, finally making it to Fenway Park was a big moment. My husband and I were genuinely excited to soak up the pre-game energy, so we made a 12:30 reservation at Game On, thinking it’d be the perfect spot to kick off the day. We arrived right on time and were seated immediately, so far, so good. But that’s where the experience took a sharp turn.
It was busy, of course, it’s game day at Fenway, we expected a crowd. What we didn’t expect was to be completely ignored. Ten minutes passed with no greeting, no water, not even a glance from a server. Meanwhile, two other tables near us were seated after we arrived, yet both were quickly greeted, given water, and had their orders taken within ten minutes.
We sat there for twenty minutes. No acknowledgment. Every server walked by without eye contact. It felt deliberate. I finally flagged one down and politely asked if someone was assigned to our table. She didn’t even stop walking — just snapped, “A server will come when they’re ready,” and kept going. No smile. No apology. Just attitude. At that point, we were done. We walked over to the hostess to explain what happened. But she just blinked at us like a deer in headlights. So we left. Luckily, there are plenty of other great spots around Fenway, and the day wasn’t ruined. But the way we were treated at Game On? A total letdown, especially for what was supposed to be a special first visit. If you’re heading to a game and want good vibes to start your day, I’d recommend...
