So disappointing and far from authentic.
I'm a huge fan of all types of Asian cuisine and today's visit for lunch fell short on every measure. The food was thrown together missing that blend of flavor that makes this food pop and satisfy.
The staff seemed confused. It was clearly just a job to them. No culinary background at that I could tell. The server told me that the miso I added on was not gluten-free because it had pork in it. (???) I asked what pork had to do with the miso not being gluten-free and she told me that pork was not gluten-free. I was dumbfounded.
The food missed all the marks in the final product. The chicken was bland and the broth was uninspired. The veggies had no life. The scallions could have passed for shredded lettuce. There was a giant pile of them sitting on the sink when I walked in. These people handle food like foreign objects. The finished product showed little understanding of culture and the complex flavors that should be the standard coming out of any Asian inspired kitchen. There was no one of Asian decent in back or front of the house. Everyone spoke Spanish. I doubt the staff even eats the food produced there nor understand what it should taste like. That was clear by the entire experience.
This was my second time visiting. The first time I wasn't overly impressed, but I thought it had potential. So today I gave it another try. There will not be a third. I'm curious if the original store in NYC falls so far off the mark. Somehow I doubt it, even with overwhelming gentrification of the city I'm sure there are enough people there who know what this food should taste like and wouldn't validate something this far from the mark. I doubt this is what the originators intended when they expanded this chain. I'm curious to see if this is fixable or an intended farce to exploit a...
Read moreTotto Ramen is always a must have if I even pass by South Bay. I found it by chance and have been coming back for years. I've eatenca lot of ramen and Totto Ramen has always and consistently set the bar so high for what is good Ramen. I have been back many times and the food has always been so rich and delicious and after a bowl I sit back and think about how good of a choice it was.
Appetizers: I will pretty much always start with the Pork Gyoza, non-negotiable. But the Charsiu Mayo Don is a really delicious choice too, good amount of rice and delicious, tender pork, a great choice too for those who aren't a fan of Ramen.
Ramen: You can't go wrong with any of the choices for Ramen, and if you know what you like get it. I will always go for the Curry Ramen with extra Ajitama (boiled, marinated egg) and am so very satisfied by the end. I will change it up with a Spicy Miso, Miso Ramen or just the classic Paitan Ramen. BUT. If you want the best bowl and you have a big appetite, get the Mega Ramen. It's just 3 servings of the Paitan Ramen with extra crispy chicken.
Thank you Totto Ramen for always being my favorite...
Read moreService was slow. Waitress forgot our drinks. Pretty sure the chef forgot to add the flavor base into my ramen broth, and it was very bland! The waitress just brought me a bottle of salt and told me to add it in. Then a couple mins later, the manager came over and told me that they can remake another bowl for me if I wanted. I was half way into my ramen already and did not want to waste my food. It was a quite disappointing experience for me. New hire needs to be better trained and not to interact with customers alone.
Takoyaki was the cheapest one I have had in a long time. Store bought frozen and deep fried. It had the tiniest piece of tako inside...not...
