I found this place very confusing. There was supposedly a video to watch when we arrived to see how things work there, and a waiter said he was going to show us a video but we only saw a few seconds - maybe it was the tail end only, but it didn't explain much.
There are many things. When I asked for help, the waiter kind of smugly asked me if I had watched the video. And then he didn't explain much.
It turns out there are two ways to get food. Little dishes which are supposed to be sushi but also include other things, revolve around on belts for you to get. The price is not posted and you do not know the price until you actually get your bill. It turns out they are $3.90. There's a sign placed on the conveyor above telling you how to get the dishes off of the lower conveyor, but it is not worded well. It should just say "Lift the lid and take the dish."
There are other things that you order off of a screen, and they arrive on an upper conveyor which we did not notice at first. At the end of your visit, you are asked to review your bill on the screen, and some of the things are listed out, others are summarized as appetizers, and some appear as sushi plates, although the price is not shown for those.
Only chopsticks are given. I asked for a fork and was given a cheap plastic fork for some reason. I'm not good at chopsticks, and a regular stainless steel fork would have been nice.
Your drinks are delivered by a cute little robot. The screen says your drinks have been delivered well before they get there. The screen also says when other things have been delivered, but it has to be refreshed manually, believe it or not.
They allow you to pay by QR code or through a server, but amazingly they do not allow you to tap your card. You have to give it to a server unless you do the QR code.
The food itself was quite good, and drinks were refilled without asking, but I'm just not sure all the complication and smug attitude...
Read moreVery frustrating experience on what could have been amazing. I was told not to get started until a server came to show me what to do. I waited almost half an hour with all this delicious food revolving around me. When the server finally came, the explanation was only about 15 seconds and something a host could easily handle. The food itself and experience was amazing. Then when I went to pay, every card I had declined. I was at a loss. The server was standing over me, raising her voice at me that I could not leave until I pay. I kept asking if they were willing to check their system or if I could speak to a manager. She just continued to tell me that I had to figure it out and not allow me to leave. Meanwhile I can hear someone else across the room having almost an identical conversation. I finally got the manager's attention and persuaded him to allow me to go to an ATM and come back. My card worked just fine at the ATM. When I returned and paid with cash I was told that the system went offline which is why no one's payment processed. I told the host... yes, I was trying to ask if you all would check that, but she just stood over me and wouldn't let me leave. The hostess told me in situations like this I should ask for a manager and I told her, yes, I did, but the server just kept standing there. I planned to spend about 30 minutes here, and this was a 2 hour ordeal. I then went grocery shopping and my card declined again. I called my bank and it turns out the sushi place had swiped my card 11 times and it got shut off for fraud. I thought this was going to be quick and relaxing. This was crazy and my bank can't unlock my card...
Read moreWow!! Kura is not just a restaurant but an experience and one you must have! If you have ever been to Japan you will love this place. This isn’t your typical takeout or dine in sushi place.
First, the food here is incredible. You can get sushi rolls, nigiri and even some dessert options from the conveyer belt. You can also order off the tablet at your table if you want different options (ramen, udon, different sushi / sashimi) and the food arrives very promptly via the conveyer belt!
Second, the service is great. Servers are very attentive and helpful. I know a reviewer here mentioned that the service wasn’t good, but they also just opened up like 3 days ago. Do you remember your first few weeks starting a new job? It isn’t easy.
Third, the experience is incredible especially if you love technology and automation. If you have been to Japan or love Japanese culture, you will adore this place. Almost everything is automated, and there are cute little robots that serve drinks. I have never had a robot serve me in the US (only in Japan and Germany) so that was super cool!! When you are done eating, there is a plate counter at the table where you deposit your plates and it calculates your bill.
I had an amazing time at Kura and will definitely be back! I highly recommend going if you’re a fan of sushi and...
