I recently had the displeasure of staying at Courtyard Mariott South Boston, and I cannot express enough how utterly disappointed I am with my experience. The constant presence of construction workers outside my window completely marred what should have been a pleasant stay. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who swiftly checked me in. The lobby appeared presentable, and I held hope for a comfortable stay. However, my optimism quickly evaporated the following morning when I was awakened at the crack of dawn by the cacophony of construction noise. To my disbelief, there were not one, not two, but three men conducting construction work right outside my window. A window with curtains that don't even close completely. The sheer audacity of subjecting guests to such an appalling disturbance is beyond comprehension. The incessant hammering, drilling, and other ear-piercing noises continued for hours, leaving me with a throbbing headache and a ruined day. Their response was "We didn't know there would be construction, we're as surprised as you are, and it will be done soon" Three hours and 5 calls later, I was offered a late check out! It is incomprehensible how the management of could allow such a disturbance to occur without any regard for the comfort and well-being of their guests. Not to mention three men unannounced right outside a window. Imagine if you had your wife or daughter in the room? What makes matters worse is that my repeated attempts to reach out to the front desk regarding the issue were met with indifference. Housekeeping came in three times as well despite a do not disturb sign on the door. The lack of concern or effort to address the situation only added insult to injury and left me feeling utterly disregarded as a paying guest. I strongly advise anyone considering a stay at this hotel to think twice before booking. The lack of consideration for guests' peace and tranquility, coupled with the dismissive attitude of the staff, is a clear indicator of their disregard for customer satisfaction. In an industry where guest comfort and experience should be paramount, it is deeply disheartening to encounter such negligence. In conclusion, I vehemently discourage anyone from subjecting themselves to the abysmal experience I endured at this place. Save yourself the frustration and headaches, and seek accommodation elsewhere that values your comfort and provides a peaceful...
Read moreI really like this place. The location is proximate to nowhere interesting to me, except, maybe, if you want to stretch it, South St. Station. But what it lacks in accessibility, it more than makes up for with service, good rates, comfort, and, come breakfast time, pleasure.
Nice to save on parking costs, first of all, when driving into a city of Boston's allure. Just a big old lot out front and then a short walk through the welcoming entrance. At this point, you've spent zero dollars and will continue to do so after using room's free Wi-Fi. There's even a complimentary granola bar and bottle of water awaiting you. Actually, we'll see when the bill comes. That would be dirty pool if they end up charging for it.
The rooms are incredibly spacious and comfortable. Need to do some stretching and crunches after stuffing yourself on great Thai in the city? Plenty of room on the carpet and it's nicely padded, so you're not feeling the hard wood underneath you. TV has a good array of channels, including -- make a note of this come Stanley Cup season -- NBCSN. Ugh -- how many frustrating nights have I spent on the road, unable to see a Cup game in April and May?
The bed is wonderful and far across the room from the window, which, I suppose if you're facing out toward 93, could create some ambient noise that wouldn't be appreciated. But all the little pillows and thin, soft, and well-insulated bed linens allow sleep to come easily.
Bathroom is utilitarian, but fine. Tub is full size, fills up quickly, and hot water is never an issue -- however long you choose to sink in for a good soak. A very welcome amenity after a day of urban hiking in winter time.
Staff is friendly at the front desk and will pick up on it when you offhandedly correct their mispronunciation of your last name.
Breakfast is a real treat. Not complimentary -- but for what they're offering, how could it be? A lovely room with crescent-shaped banquettes for you to sink into with a complimentary USA Today as you await some stellar French Toast topped with strawberries and with a side cupful if you run out. Not ridiculously pricey either. What you'd pay at Denny's and twice the quality.
So, a stay here is highly recommended if you don't mind hopping a taxi into town. Desk is very obliging in calling one for you and they always come by within ten minutes. And Boston is compact enough that the fare won't be an arm or a leg to get where...
Read moreI stayed for 3 nights for a convention in Boston,. |Positives:|1. Lobby and hallways were pleasant and well kept. Wallpaper and carpeting in the room was also pleasant (though the ceilings were that white "popcorn" type that screams "youth hostel"). |2. Front desk staff were uniformly friendly and accommodating. ||That's it for the positives. ||Negatives:|1. Lighting in the room was poor. Even with all the lights on, significant areas of the room were dark or shadowy. Lights by the bed were sconces and not directional to allow for reading. |2. This was the first hotel room I've stayed in that did not have a safe for valuables|3. The wardrobe looks like it was obtained from IKEA and is too small (see photos). |4. The ironing board was one of those short, tabletop ones that makes it very difficult actually to iron one's clothes. This may be a byproduct of the inadequate wardrobe, which is too short to accommodate a normal ironing board|5. There was no bureau in the room, indeed no drawers at all, in which one can store underwear, socks, workout gear, polo shirts and other clothing not typically put on hangers. I wound up piling these on the second bed. Laughably, there is an opening in the desk area that appears to be one that a drawer normally would fit into, but it's just an empty space that is useless |6. The "desk" was a relatively narrow horizontal board attached to the wall. Not terrible but contributed to the feeling of a "low-rent" accommodation.|6. The view from my second floor room was of a parking lot, grabage dumpsters filled with garbage, and industrial buildings. Very unpleasant.. |7. Room rate was about $580 per night, including taxes. I would expect this at a 5-Star hotel, not here. I found this to be an abusive rate for what the hotel offers. I also wanted a KIng room but it was even more expensive so I settled for two Queen beds.|6. Of of the beds was against a wall so anyone sleeping on the side has no light and has to climb over the other person to get out of bed.|8. Gym was okay. Mostly treadmills and ellipticals with a bench press and a leg press machine. Otherwise only free weights and one of those "universal" gyms that are not much use.|9. I'm a frequent Marriott, traveler. All things considered this was the most disappointing Marriott, hotel I've...
