My girlfriend and I are out of towners and were hiking in the area. We were excited to see a vegan restaurant with such a diverse menu. We weren't exactly sure what to get--because everything sounded so good. We let a few people in line in front of us so we could have more time to decide. Once we were ready to order, the cashier wasn't friendly, and seemed in a rush to try to get us to order. I understand the place was busy and there was a line, but one register for the amount of customers they seem to get is a little ridiculous. It was clear she was stressed and I don't blame her. I work in retail. I know how some guests can be and having one register doesn't alleviate the rush. I was never asked if I wanted a receipt either. I didn't get one. When we got our food, the food was very bland. My girlfriend ordered the mother earth bowl and almost spit it back out. They didn't put any dressing/sauce on it, so it just tasted like unseasoned quinoa, lettuce, and avocado. There was nothing in the bowl that gave it any flavor or texture. The texture was mushy and unappetizing. There wasn't anything saving it except for the sweet potato. It tasted like they poured the vinaigrette directly on the sweet potato (which had absorbed all of it) and didn't mix it properly into the salad. I would recommend adding vegetables that add more flavor into the dish such as red onion or pickled carrots or pickled beet (anything that has been premarinated or spiced. I got the thai dye wrap, which was decent, but I was expecting a little more flavor. The wrap itself wasn't wrapped at all. It looked like it was made of pita bread. It was cut in half an left open on both ends, so everything spilled right out the back end. I would have taken my girlfriend's bowl back to the counter, but the line was too long. The atmosphere was very cute and inviting, the food was inconsistent, and the staff were clearly very stressed. I think maybe we had gone at a bad time. It felt like they were trying to put the food out fast--to hell with quality control. It could have just been what we ordered wasn't great, but we left...
Read moreRude Manager, Disrespect Toward Service Dog, and Poor Leadership
I had a very upsetting experience at this restaurant that left me frustrated and disappointed, especially as someone who relies on a service dog. From the moment I walked in, I was treated with a lack of basic respect and understanding of the law.
The manager, Ashley, told me that my fully trained service dog needed to sit on the floor, which is not only inappropriate for service animals but also a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). My dog is 8 pounds and was sitting in my lap. When I calmly explained this, she became defensive and rude, speaking to me in a dismissive and condescending tone. It was painfully obvious that she does not like dogs and has little to no understanding—or concern—for the legal rights of individuals with disabilities.
What made the situation even worse was how unprofessional she was in general. The restaurant was clearly busy, with customers waiting for tables, yet Ashley chose to sit at a dining table in the middle of the restaurant, working on her laptop. Instead of managing her staff, helping turn tables, or using her office to free up space, she occupied a table that could have been used for actual guests. It was a clear example of poor leadership and a lack of consideration for both her team and the customers.
This entire experience left a terrible impression. Not only was I made to feel unwelcome because of my service dog, but I also witnessed a manager who seemed completely checked out and more interested in asserting power than creating a respectful and inclusive environment.
I hope this business takes serious steps to train its staff—especially management—on ADA compliance and basic customer service. Until then, I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially individuals with service animals or...
Read moreI've been here more than 10 times as of Oct 31 2018, and they opened Aug 22. So even though my review isn't gushing, I do like it a lot and there's enough variety in the menu for a vegetarian not to get bored with it. (I'm vegetarian, not vegan BTW.)
First I'll mention that the crushed avocado toast is a highlight; I order it every time. I thought the vegan pudding was quite good; yes there's a coconut flavor (undesirable IMO) but it's pretty mild and the overall chocolate flavor was bold.
Some menu items are spectacularly good (my plate with asparagus, Sichuan green bean, and Japanese eggplant; and the Mother Earth bowl), and some are boring (the chopped vegetable salad had very few chopped vegetables, virtually all lettuce; in general the salads tend to be skimpy on the add-ins and are mostly "base", but there are exceptions, apparently based on the person making the salad). The quality of the salad greens has been consistently excellent - typically no matter where I order a salad I have to pick out several wilted/soggy leaves, but it happens very rarely here.
Other menu items I'd classify as good but not great. I can't recommend the vegan mushroom pho (not on the menu as of today) - the broth is IMO typical for a vegan pho broth (cinnamon, five-spice powder perhaps?) and although the other ingredients were fine I couldn't get past the unpleasant broth. The tofu "protein add-on" is extremely bland - browned around the edges but with no spices otherwise. I recommend getting your protein elsewhere, especially considering the $4 price here.
Most recently I've tried the Late Riser Bowl and Forbidden Rice Bowl (both very good), and the Brussels & Squash...
