As far as Chinese food goes in the Boulder area, this has become out primary go to location for lunch at my work. We are averaging at least 2 times a week at this point, and the food is consistently good for us. WE order about for 3 to 7 people every time from the lunch menu, and everyone usually gets the same thing they did last time because of how much they enjoy it.
The delivery is usually consistent as well as we order for a 12:00 delivery the food gets here between 12 & 12:15 which to us is acceptable given the lunch rush for Boulder. Some of the times we do have special requests with the food for things like making it spicy or no vegetables given some of our employees food allergies and they have always gotten the orders correct.
The lunch portions are fairly huge which usually lets us take at least half of it home for dinner or to save for lunch tomorrow. On the occasion that we did order the dinner portion it too was large filling one of those standard black rectangular containers completely to the top.
We find the sauces to be rich and full of flavor with very little need for salt or pepper, or any other modification to the sauce. The meats for beef and chicken have never been overcooked and are tender and flavorful. The fried rice is one of our favorites and has a really good flavor to it that isn't just wok oil and isn't dried out and crunchy.
The only negatives that we wish would be improved is with their breaded dishes like sesame or sweet and sour. The breading is kind of generic and doesn't stick to the meat at all. Feels like a really thin pancake batter type of texture and usually contains a decent amount of oil in it. The batter itself adds a weird flavoring to whatever else is with it and honestly could use some...
Read moreI was craving Chinese food after work when I found out my favorite restaurant in Boulder was closed for the night. So I relied on Google to help me find a restaurant.
Golden Sun was close and open late so I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try.
It sits in the corner of the strip mall and is a pretty good sized restaurant.
The menu is pretty extensive with all the traditional Chinese dishes you know and love.
I ordered my favorite dishes, Sweet and Sour Chicken (2nd favorite since they don't do S & S Pork,1st favorite) Pork Fried Rice and Chicken Chow Mein.
I was surprised by the size of the serving on the plate. Definitely enough to eat there and plenty to take home for leftovers. Yum!
The S & S Chicken came in huge chunks served with S & S Sauce on the side. Although each piece of the chicken was significantly sized, it was so crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside.
The Pork Fried Rice had huge chunks of tender pork, egg and nice chunks of onion. Such great flavors.
The Chicken Chow Mein had huge strips of tender chicken & crispy noodles on top. While it was made different than what I'm use to, it was pretty good.
While I was waiting for my food, there were a ton of late night to go orders. Yes, they also deliver and it was obvious that others knew about it too.
While it doesn't replace my favorite go to Chinese food restaurant in Boulder during the day. It could be my favorite for late night. I will definitely be back. It does offer really Fresh and Hot food with a nice variety to choose from and hardy sized servings. A great value...
Read moreI went twice. The first time, a man and woman who work there seemed to be having an argument (in Chinese) at the front counter. True, I couldn't understand what they were saying, but it was still an unpleasant vibe.
Second time, woman from front desk brought a takeout order from the back to a waiting man who placed the order. She left the bag of food toward the far end of the counter and walked a few more steps to the cash register area right next to the man. He looked at her, perplexed, and said, "Is that mine?" It was, but customer service is definitely not a high priority.
Pic shows the empty, dry buffet at 2:00 on a weekday. (Buffet goes until 3:00.) They were nice enough about making more of whatever dish I asked for, but that's not how a buffet works. When small quantity of what I asked for (and only what I asked for - took two requests to get mixed vegetables AND noodles) was brought out, it was dumped into a crusty buffet pan, rather than a clean one.
There is one light bulb in the women's room, so the stalls are very dark. Nobody could be bothered to put the paper towels in the dispenser. The liquid "soap" at the bathroom sink couldn't have been more than 1% soap, the rest water. I shudder to imagine the condition of the kitchen.
The food was okay for strip mall Chinese, I guess, and you can't beat the price, but I won't be going back and apparently neither will very many other people, as other than the poor guy who ordered takeout there, I only saw one booth, total, in use over the course of...
